Xiamen Weather in February

With frequent cold waves, the weather of Xiamen is a bit changeable in February, a transition period from late winter to early spring. People feel less cold on sunny days, when the high temperature remains 15 - 19 degrees Celsius (59 - 66.2 degrees Fahrenheit), while when the cold air passes through, it can drop to around 10℃ (50℉). As the historical data shows, Xiamen experiences an average of 2 - 3 cold air processes in February, which often appear in early to mid-month. 

A temperature difference also exists between day and night. The low temperature often fluctuates between 6 - 12℃ (42.8 - 53.6℉), making people a little cold. 

Besides, at the seaside where the wind is strong, the perceived temperature is lower.
 Xiamen doesn’t see a lot of rainfall in February. The total precipitation is 99 mm (3.9 in) on average, distributed on 12 rainy days. Light rain is the most common, and occasionally, it rains relatively heavily. Continuous rain for several days doesn’t often occur, which can only be seen during cold waves, accompanied by dropping temperatures.
 The weather is mainly cloudy, sunny for a while and overcast condition appears for another while. As a result, the sunlight duration drops to its shortest of a year. The city only receives 4 hours of sunshine every day on average. However, when it’s sunny, the UV rays are strong, requiring some sun protection measures.

The sun rises at 6:31 - 6:49 and sets at 17:53 - 18:09, giving a daylight of more than 11 hours.
 Huge wind is the most common climate phenomenon in Xiamen in February. According to statistics from the past three years, the wind force often reaches 4 - 5 levels, and about 10 days can see gusts of 7 or above. They may cause ferry services to be suspended and scenic areas at the seaside to close temporarily. So, it is necessary to pay attention to weather warnings in advance.
  At noon
A bottoming shirt with knitwear is a good choice for having fun in the warm sun. For those who are not afraid of the cold, single thick jeans are enough. It’s also necessary to carry some sun protection items such as sunglasses, sunscreen, and a cap.

 In the early morning and evening
Put on a wool overcoat or thick jacket to keep warm, which is also helpful to deal with temperature drops during cold waves. Long johns are advised for people sensitive to temperature change. 

 Shoes
A pair of walking boots is ideal, which can prevent both wind and sand by the sea and reduce discomfort on your feet during long walk.
 1. Book flight tickets and hotels early in case you cannot get one or have to pay more, as Xiamen is a popular travel destination. Note that ferry tickets to Gulangyu Island need a prior reservation, too.
2. Get ready to meet numerous tourists everywhere, particularly at those hot attractions, including Hulishan Fortress, and South Putuo Temple. You may spend a lot of time queuing up for restaurants and shuttling between attractions.
3. You can first choose some open sites, such as Baicheng Beach and Jimei, where tourists spread, making it less crowded.
4. Don’t miss the wonderful firework shows at Huangcuo Beach, Island Ring Road, etc.
 1. Visiting Xiamen in February, you can visit Xiamen Horticulture Expo Garden, where tulips are blooming.
2. Warm noon is the best time to have fun by the sea or visit the island.
3. Check the weather conditions one day before departure, and confirm whether the ferry to Gulangyu Island will be in service.
