Xiamen Weather in June

Season: summer, plum rainy season
 Average temperature: 24 - 30℃ (75 - 86℉) 

As June comes, the weather of Xiamen gets hot. The high temperature climbs to 27 - 33 degrees Celsius (80.6 - 91.4 degrees Fahrenheit) in the daytime, and sometimes exceeds 35℃ (95℉). You may start to sweat only after staying out for a while. Particularly on Gulangyu Island, where people need to sightsee on foot, you may keep sweating in the sun. What’s more, high humidity makes the perceived temperature higher than the forecast says. In the evening, the temperature drops slightly, to around 22 - 27℃ (71.6 - 80.6℉). 
It rains frequently and heavily. The monthly precipitation ranks second in a year, averagely 187 mm (7.4 in), and is distributed over about 15 days of the whole month. It is indeed frustrating to find continuous rainy days when reading the weather forecast. However, the rainfall always occurs in the form of heavy showers that arrive and leave quickly. Specifically, it may start raining when you leave a scenic spot, but when you arrive at the next one, it may have cleared up. Besides, from experience, it’s a little difficult to predict the climate condition of Xiamen in June absolutely accurately. It’s even not strange to see sun rain. By the way, most rainfall takes place in the afternoon.

June has the highest humidity of a year, 85% on average, further strengthening the feeling of stuffy and hot.
 The sunshine duration is 6 hours daily on average, although half of the month sees some rain. During sunny periods, the strong sunlight brings a high UV index and temperature, especially at the seaside, calling for thorough protection. 

The daylight length reaches its peak, averagely 14 hours, making it possible for you to slow down to enjoy your trip. Those who like to watch the sunrise over the sea need to get up early and be there before 5:18 - 5:22. For those prefer sunset, go there before 18:52 - 19:00.
 Although it has not entered the typhoon season, the possibility of a typhoon landing still exists according to historical records. For example, in 2025, a typhoon passed through Xiamen on June 13, bringing thunderstorms and short-term strong winds.
  Clothes
Breathable and quick-dry clothes in a light color are the ideal option for visiting Xiamen in June 2026. For example, short shirt and shorts made of cotton and linen can be a good match. Chiffon skirts and dresses are also advised for women. When visiting the Gulangyu Island and Xiamen Botanical Garden where insects are rampant, you can choose light pants instead. 

 Shoes
Lightweight casual shoes are suitable for long-time traveling at South Putuo Temple, Gulangyu Island, Hulishan Fortress, and Jimei, where you have to visit by walk. For the days on the beach, a pair of sandals or slippers would be better.

 Other necessities to pack 
1. Sun protective accessories such as a sun hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen
2. Always carry a portable raincoat with you to deal with sudden rain, no matter what the weather forecast says.
3. If you are worried that long pants make you hot, bring insect repellent. 
 1. Try to avoid going out at 11:00 - 16:00 when the temperature rises to its highest level with strong sunshine. You can have a rest in your hotel or visit indoor spots like Tan Kah Kee Memorial Hall, Shuzhuang Garden, and Hi Heaven Villa. 

2. It’s a good choice to have a night cruise tour on Lujiang River to enjoy the charming view in cool sea wind.

3. Stone roads on Gulangyu Island and alleys at Zengcuo’an Village get slippery after the rain, so be careful.

4. Choose some sunny rather than rainy days to conduct water activities by the sea.
