Xiamen Weather in July

July is the hottest month of Xiamen, with a high temperature of 30 - 35 degrees Celsius (86 - 95 degrees Fahrenheit) during the day. Actually, under the impact of high humidity, the perceived temperature always exceeds a scorching 35℃ (95℉). There are even 2 - 3 days seeing an extreme high temperature of 37℃ (98.6℉). The maximum value recorded was 39℃ (102.2℉) in 2025. Even in the evening, the temperature remains 25 - 28℃ (77 - 82.4℉), and only in coastal areas it is not that hot with blowing sea wind. What’s more, unlike in other inland cities, the temperature doesn’t drop much after rainfall.

In July, Xiamen doesn’t get much rainfall. About 5 - 7 days are rainy, with thunder showers often appearing after noon. The strong winds always come at the same time; however, the travel is not significantly affected due to their short duration. 

Most rainfall takes place on typhoon days, actually. About 1 - 2 typhoons come to Xiamen in July every year, with the shortest interval of 10 days. They bring continuous rainstorms, which usually last for about 3 days each time and weaken gradually as the typhoon leaves. Ferries often stop service on strong typhoon days, so it’s necessary to pay attention to the warning information before departure. Comfortingly, you have the chance to appreciate unique and spectacular crimson clouds in the sky when a typhoon leaves.

To note that the weather forecast sometimes cannot predict the climate conditions of Xiamen in July accurately, as it can be changeable even within a day. So don’t be upset if you find continuous rainy days before you set off.

Besides, the air humidity remains 82%, very humid and enhancing the summer heat.
 Sunshine duration gets its longest in July, nearly 9 hours daily on average. Accordingly, the UV rays remain strong all the time. The sun rises early at 5:22 - 5:35 and sets late at 18:52 - 19:00, offering sufficient traveling time to visitors. 
 It is regarded as a good time by people who prefer water activities on the sea. The temperature of the sea water reaches a pleasant 27℃ (80.6℉), and all facilities are well-equipped. The only thing to note is to avoid water activities at about 11:00 - 16:00 with strongest sunshine, as it is easy to get sunburned or heatstroke.
 1. High temperature and strong sunshine affect travel experience greatly. The air is scorching. Women often find that their makeup is messed up after walking for a while in the sun. On Gulangyu Island, portable fans even don’t work efficiently.
2. A travel peak season appears since middle of the month as Chinese students start their summer holiday. Traveling to Xiamen in July 2026, you will meet a lot of tourists at all popular destinations including Gulangyu Island, Baicheng Beach, South Putuo Temple, and Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street. More time and money are needed due to heavy traffic and rising prices for hotels and flights.
3. Typhoon poses a threat to the operation of coastal attractions, ferries, as well as flights.
  Clothes: Cotton and linen short shirt and chiffon shorts in a light color are the best choices. They are sweat-absorbing and can dry quickly. If you are the one who attracts mosquitoes, light pants suit you better, especially when visiting Xiamen Botanical Garden and Zengcuo’an Village. Sun protection jacket is needed for resisting UV rays, which is also helpful when you feel a little cold in indoor spots with strong air conditioning. 

 Shoes: a pair of comfortable sandals, which works well both when you visit attractions and have fun by the sea.

 1. Make full use of morning and evening with a lower temperature for outdoor sightseeing and take a rest at your hotel around the hottest noon. 

2. If go beach combing, go when the tide is ebbing and choose the relatively cooler early mornings and evenings. Hot beaches for this activity include Guanyinshan Beach, Wuyuanwan Beach, and Yefengzhai Beach. You need to confirm the accurate time of the ebb tide in advance.

3. In the cooler evening, you can also have a cruise tour to enjoy the charming night view of the city. Lu River night tour is the most popular.

4. If feeling burning hot outside, find nearby indoor sites with air conditioning for a break, like Shuzhuang Garden and Hi Heaven Villa on Gulangyu Island, and Tan Kah Kee Memorial Hall at Jimei.

5. Females with long hair are advised to tuck their hair up to prevent it from sticking to neck after sweating and feeling uncomfortable. For the similar reason, tourists are not advised to wear much makeup.

6. There are fewer tourists in early July than in mid to late of the month.

7. Prepare some heatstroke medicine just in case.
