Yichang weather in October is delightful with a little rain and many sunny days. It is an ideal time to visit the Three Gorges Dam and Xiling Gorge of Yangtze River. But exclude the National Day Holiday and Mid-autumn Festival Holiday, when it can be rather crowded.

Cold fronts may pass through Yichang in October, causing a sharp drop in temperature. But overall, it’s not hot, or cold either, generally at a comfortable range.

The fog usually appears in the mornings and evenings which dissipates by midday. During clear moments, UV rays can still be quite strong, so sun protection is required. 
 The pleasant and comfortable weather vote for sightseeing in October. Daytime temperatures are warm, while nights are slightly cooler. Precipitation is mainly intermittent, so it won’t disrupt your itinerary. During the rainy moments, the rain and mist create a uniquely poetic scene over the Yangtze River. On a clear day, the sunset over the river should not to be missed. Also, except the National Day holiday in early month, the visitor flow is moderate and the cost is not at the highest. In short, exploring Yichang in October offers both a pleasant experience and value for money.
  Clothes: A breathable, comfortable long-sleeved T-shirt is recommended as a base layer and it will be enough for sunny moments. For an outer layer, a windbreaker or a jacket is recommended for cool, rainy or windy days as well as night times. Jeans or casual sweatpants are sufficient as your bottom layer.

 1. Early October is the National Day holiday in China, usually lasting from October 1st to 7th, so is in the 2026. In some years, it can be 8 days long connecting with the Mid-autumn Festival. During the period, flows of Chinese seize the chance to make trips and it can be quite crowded in the Three Gorges Dam scenic area and other popular sites in Yichang. Besides, the hotel price and flight ticket price rise. Therefore, it’s not advised to travel during the holiday. 

2. Electronic devices (mobile phones, cameras), clothes, etc., are easily affected by high humidity when you stay near the Yangtze River, so waterproof storage bags are recommended.
