Lijiang Bicycle Tours

BC-LJ01: 10-Day Lijiang - Tiger Leaping Gorge - Shangri-La - Benzilan - Derong - Ciwu - Xiangcheng - Daocheng
Once arriving in Lijiang, you can lodge in a local inn in the Old Town, and then start exploring Lijiang on foot. At night, you could spend the time in a unique bar along the river through the town. Set off from the Old Town the next day, you could cycle northward to Baisha Town where you can find some beautiful murals and the local residential houses. This journey is just 8 kilometers (5 miles). In the remaining time, you could visit this old town located at the foot of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain leisurely and then depart to Shuhe which is another old town. Before night coming, you could cycle 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) back to Lijiang.

Alternatively, if you would like to climb up the snow capped Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, you could get there from Baisha after a 26-kilometer (16-mile) cycling. The scenic along the flat road is so charming that you could take an excellent picture anywhere. Descending down the mountain, you have to take a 15-kilometer (9-mile) journey back to Lijiang.

The next morning, you can cycle to the Tiger Leaping Gorge, passing by the First Bend of the Yangtze River. In the remaining time, you could explore the 18-kilometer (11-mile) gorge on foot. In the following day, you will cycle out of the gorge and then visit the White Water Terrace, and continue the journey to Shangri-La cycling over several mountains. En route, it is optional for you to visit the Bitahai Lake and the Guihua Temple.
It is suggested that you spend one day in visiting this Tibetan county with an average altitude of over 3,000 meters (9,843 feet). The next day, you will take a 140-kilometer (87-mile) journey to Nixi and then Derong of Sichuan Province. There is a division spot called Benzilan on the way from Nixi to Derong. Here, if would like to Derong, you have to cross the Fulongqiao Bridge above Jinshanjiang River and then cycle along the river about 100 kilometers (62 miles) to Derong. If you would like to Deqin and then Tibet, you just need to travel along the river but not cross the bridge.

Afterwards, you are going to head to Xiangcheng about 100 kilometers to the northeast of Derong. On your way, you will pass by the Ciwu Valley which is noted for its beauties and then cycle through the 4,500 meters (14,763 feet) high Bamu Mountain. The next journey is flat that you can cycle to Sangdui and then Daocheng of Sichuan Province. Starting from Daocheng, you could have another journey in Sichuan Province.

Please refer to the section from Lijiang to Benzilan in BC-LJ01. Then, you could start from Benzilan to Deqin and then stop at the Feilai Temple by taking the Yunnan-Tibet Road, which is also known as the No.214 National Highway. The snowy scenic on the way has attracted so many travelers. Set off early the next day, you will get to Yanjing of Tibet, which is located on the bank of the Lancang River. In the remaining time in Yanjing, you could visit the only Catholic Church in Tibet. The next day, you should head to Mangkam which is an importation transportation hub to other parts of Tibet. The journey is about 110 kilometers (68 miles) but this road always suffers collapse in rainy season, so caution is advised.
