2 Days of Jinghong - Olive Dam - Tropical Rainforest Valley
Xishuangbanna Nationality Culture Park
On your first day, you may focus on some famous scenic spots in the urban area. In the morning, go to the Xishuangbanna Nationality Culture Park by the autobus No. 1. Since it is only 1 kilometer (0.6 mile) southwest from the downtown area, you surely can walk there along the Minhang Road. The admission ticket charges you CNY30. Enriched with landscape of tropical rainforest and ethnic manners and customs, this park is worth your visit. You can find various types of tropical plants and fruit trees all over the park. There is a national song and dance performance almost every day. On the evenings of every Wednesday, Saturday or Holidays, the park hosts diversified ethnic activities. In July and August, when lychees and mangoes are ripe, the park will set aside an orchard so that visitors can enjoy and experience the fun of harvest. In the afternoon, have a visit at Chunhuan Park, which is also quite near to the center of the city, only about 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) southeast away. “Chunhuan” means “Home of the Soul' in Dai Language. You may take the bus No. 3 to get there or walk along the Manjinglan Flavor Street. The entrance fee is CNY15. There are Buddhist temples, pavilions, and orchards in the park. As a forest park, it is the oldest one in Xishuangbanna and also called Manting Park. In the legend, it was also the Imperial Garden of the King of Thailand. From 14:30-16:00 every afternoon, there is also a national song and dance performance. In the middle of April, you have to join in the Water-Sprinkling Festival there. Stay overnight in the city. On the second day, take a minibus to the Olive Dam. You can find the bus on the North Minzu Road and it departs every 20 minutes. It will cost you CNY7.5 and about 45 minutes on the way. You may also choose the sightseeing boat along the Mekong River to reach there. Board the boat at the dock and a single-pass journey will take you 2-3 hours. There is only one scenic spot - the village of Dai nationality in the Olive Dam and the entrance fee is CNY50. Someone once likened Xishuangbanna to a green peacock and the Olive Dam was its tail feather. Enjoy the tropical scenery, at the same time you can purchase all kinds of fruits. After lunch, charter a car or take a taxi to the Tropical Rainforest Valley. The entrance ticket will charge you CNY120. If you keep forward, you can also reach the Menglun Tropical Botanical Garden. The difference is that in the rainforest valley aisles and air corridors are built on the basis of original forest and most part of the valley remains pristine. Moreover, the local Kemu people have led their life since ancient time. Therefore, the Tropical Rainforest Valley is recommended if you want to experience real virgin forest. Transfer back to Jinghong and your excursion ends.
