You are suggested to take a long-distance bus at Dunhuang Bus Station to Liuyuan. Then change to a train to Turpan within 6-7h.

Well, Xinjiang is a big province, so there are many famous attractions, I will give you a popular route- Heavenly Lake line, and you can enjoy the famous eight attractions in Heavenly Lake, such as South Mountain Snow, Waterfalls and Pools plus Lakes.
By the way, it’s not easy to visit these places by yourself, so you are suggested to join a tour.

There are many nice attrations there. Here are some worthy ones:
Urumqi: Grand Bazaar, Heavenly Lake and Kanas Nature Reserve.
Turpan: Karez System, Flaming Mountain
Ili: Sayram Lake, Nalati Grassland

Due to the large size of the province, it is best to join a tour to see as many as you can. I know Travel China Guide can arrange Xinjiang Tours. If you are interested, contact them through traveltravelchinaguide.com!

First of all, it is a little chanllenging for you to experience the trip alone. If possible, book a tour. Anyway, here is the suggestion for your itinerary:
Day 1: Tianshan & Heavenly Lake
Day 2: Southern Pasture - Xinjiang Regional Museum
Day 3: Grand Bazaar
