Mt. Yunmeng National Forest Park, originally named Cloud Dreaming Mountain (Mt. Yunmeng), is considered a small Mt. Huangshan. The steep mountains, strange peaks and rocks, magnificent waterfall and other natural scenery make the park a perfect traveling destination. People say that Mt. Yunmeng combines the grandness of Mt. Taishan, the ruggedness of Mt. Huashan, the strangeness of Mt. Huangshan and the elegance of Mt. Emei. Nowadays, the park is not only a tourist destination, but also a good choice for students’ field practice. Furthermore, every year during the middle of April and the end of May, the Azalea Appreciation Festival is held here to symbolize the happy life.

White Dragon Pool Scenic Area, about 30 km (about 18.6 mi) from the northeastern Miyun District, is located at the foot of the Yanshan Great Wall. Shengjing Gate, the first scenic spot here, is constructed in a Chinese traditional style, while the grass grows from the gold bricks and red walls, which present a miraculous phenomenon. Moving forward about 100 meters (about 328 ft), Longquan Temple appears with a white marble statue of Guanyin Boddhisattva standing in the front of it. Five Dragon Temple (Wulongci) is regarded as the Dragon King Temple of this scenic area. First built in the North Song Dynasty (960-1127), the temple was used by the emperors to pray for rain.

Mt. Yunfo Tourism Village is an all around place for traveling, involving dining, accommodation, traveling, entertainment and relaxation. It is near to Mt. Yunmeng, Wuzuolou National Forest Park, Mt. Wuling, White Dragon Pool and Black Dragon. The representative scenic spots here are Mt. Yunfo Grand Karst Caves, Mt. Yunfo Bathing Place, Mt. Yunfo Fishing Garden, Mt. Yunfo Grand Karst Caves Skiing Park and Mt. Yunfo Organic Vegetables and Fruits Picking Garden.

Well, you are advised to take metro line 5 from Dengshikou Station to Yonghegong Station. Transfer to metro line 2 to Dongzhimen Station. Take public bus no.980 to Miyun Drum Tower.

Travelling to Miyun District over Chinese New Year
Hi, I am currently planning a trip to Miyun District in Beijing with my family to spend our Chinese New Year over there. I would like to enquire if there would large crowds and also would the great wall and some of the tourist attractions be opened over the Chinese New Year Period?

If yes, where would you recommend us to stay for about 4-5 nights and where to go?

We have been to the city before hence we would like to enjoy the countryside this time.

Thank you and I look forward to your reply!

I’m afraid there would be large crowds and the great wall and other attractions would be opened during the Chinese New Year except for the terrible snow days. Chinese New Year is a hot peak for tourism. So you’d better book the hotel and get the attractions tickets as early as possible.

Here is one itinerary recommended to you.
Day 1: Gubei Water Town - Simatai Great Wall Night Tour
Day 2: Wulingshan Forest Park
Day 3: Black Dragon Pool, Miyun Reservoir
Day 4: Nan Shan Ski
Day 5: Gubeikou Great Wall
