Shenzhen Airport will be more convenient since the distance between the airport and the train station is closer.

It seems that the Thailand passport is not available in 144 - hour free-visa transit, you may need to apply for a visa in advance. No permission is needed to visit the Great Wall and you need to pay for the entrance fee which are different according to different sections of the Great Wall. For example, the ticket fare of Badaling Great Wall is about CNY 40 for an adult.

Well, for the application, documents including your passport valid for at least three months, visa (if applicable) and onward ticket to the third country or region should be prepared. You don't have to book a hotel in advance.

I understand you would like to take a one-day tour to visit Badaling Great Wall by using 72-hour visa free policy, and you are flying to Beijing from Thailand and onward to Hong Kong. As British citizen this visa-free policy suite you. In additional to show your confirmed airfare to immigration, you also need to provide hotel confirmation, so you need to book hotel before this trip.
    May I know more information

To apply for the 72-Hour Visa-Free Transit, you will need to provide the following documents at the airport:

Passport valid for at least 3 months from the date of entry
Visa for a third country or region (if applicable)
A full completed Arrival/Departure Card (including name, nationality, passport no., visa no. & issuance place, flight no., purpose of visit, date of birth, gender)
An onward ticket with confirmed seat are needed

The hotel name and address should be required when you fill in the Arrival Card, so it is better to book in advance.

As for the immigration registration, if you book hotel which has authorization to receiving foreign clients, the hotel will help you to register automaticly when you check in with your passport. If you book personal guesthouses, I'm afraid you have to register on your own. And we suggest you book a hotel in the downtown area which is more convient for your tour arrangements
THIS NUMBER 2 SAM,BUT A FRIEND OF MINE WHO WENT IN 2011 SAID HE DONT REMEMBER HAVING TO DO THIS,IF YOU CAN UNDERSTAND,BEING DISABLED ON DISABILTY BENIFITS I WOULD BE VERY UPSET IF I BOUGHT A TICKET AND THEY REFUSED MY ENTRY BECAUSE I DONT HAVE A HOTEL,THEN AGAIN,HOW WOULD I KNOW WHICH HOTEL TO BOOK,IVE NEVER BEEN THERE AND IF THAT IS ACCEPTABLE HOTEL FOR IMMIGRATION LOL

Fill an Arrival/Departure Card at the border inspection counter
Get the temporary entry permit stamp or sticker
     Claim the luggage (if needed)

Note that if 1) you lack any of the required documents listed above, 2) or your route does not qualify, 3) or you have the record of overstaying in a country or getting visa refusal before, your application for the 24-hour visa-free transit may be turned down. For fear of inconvenience caused by such case, please make sure that you are eligible or apply for a regular transit visa in advance.
i do not recall ever having any of these at all,but feel better to check in advance how do i do that thank you,
    regards john

Hi John, if you apply for a 144-hour free visa transit, then you don't need to apply for a 24 hour transit. Generally, most of the formal hotels can receive foreign guests and don't worry too much, or you can confirm it with the hotel before you pay for the money.

If you don't have any recalls, you may contact the Exit-Entry Administration Bureau to check it.
