Wangfujing Impression - One Day Bicycle Trip in Beijing
Wangfujing street, Beijing
The golden commercial district - Wangfujing in Beijing is well-known both at home and abroad nowadays. Like climbing up the Great Wall, shopping in Wangfujing Street has also been listed in many travelers' schedule. The prosperous Wangfujing area attracts people not only for its shopping status but also for the numerous historical sites nearby. The below one day bicycle tour is designed for you to get a rough impression of the Wangfujing area.

Starting from the Oriental Square in the south of Wangfujing Street, you will ride westward along the East Chang'an Street. The road is wide and clean with lush mature trees on both sides. Then you will pass the Working People's Culture Palace, also called Taimiao, which lies in the east of the Tiananmen Square. It used to be the imperial ancestral temple in Ming (1368 - 1644) and Qing (1644 - 1911) dynasties. Now it is used to hold all kinds of cultural activities.
Continue to ride westward; you will reach the Tiananmen Tower and the Tiananmen Square. At the center of the square stands the grand Monument to the People's Heroes; in the west is the Great Hall of the People while in the East stands the China National Museum. The Mao Zedong Memorial Hall is at the south side. The Five Star Red Flag, China's national flag, flies high in the sky above the square.
Ride to the south end of the square, you will have a close view of Zhengyang Gate and Qianmen Street. Turn right to ride north along the West Square road, you will see the splendid and majestical Great Hall of the People which functions as the People's Republic of China's parliament building.
Tiananmen Tower, Beijing
Go on riding northward and turn left to West Chang'an Street, you will see the National Grand Theater on your left side and then Fuyou Street on your right side which is a clean and quiet street with flourishing locust trees. Turn right to the street and ride northward. Towards the end of the street, you will arrive at Wenjin Street where you may take a visit to the National Library or the Beihai Park. Beihai Park is one of the largest and best-preserved ancient imperial gardens in China. On the east of the park are the Forbidden City and the Jingshan Park. It takes about two to three hours for you to visit the Forbidden City and one hour for the Jingshan Park. Please note that the Forbidden City now applies unidirectional itinerary that visitors can only enter through the Meridian Gate (south gate) and leave from the Gate of Divine Might (north gate). You, therefore need to ride back to the Tiananmen Square and enter the palace from its south gate. If you would like to have a good view of all the spots mentioned in one day, you are advised to get up early. After you visit the Jingshan Park, leave from its east gate and ride southward to Jingshan Qianjie. Turn left and ride eastward to Wusi Avenue and reach the north end of Wangfujing Street. Then you can ride along the avenue and do some shopping there.
