Xi'an - Yinchuan Flights

Flight is also a good transportation choice for tourists travelling between Xi'an and Yinchuan. So far, there are about 10 pairs of flights operated daily on this route, more flights may be added to match the increased demand in peak seasons. A one-way journey takes about 1.5 hours. The economy fares change between CNY 150 - CNY 600. They depart from about 8:35 in the morning to 22:35 or so. Thus, travelling by air is recommended as an alternative for tourists who are in a hurry.

Xi'an - Yinchuan Coaches

There are about 17 pairs of coaches shuttling between Xi'an and Yinchuan on a daily basis as well. They depart from about 7:00 in the morning to 18:30. A one-way ride on coach takes about 9 - 11 hours with the ticket fare of about CNY 110.5 - 220. The ticket prices vary by type of coach and departure/terminal station. Overnight sleeper coaches are also available on this route.

Is there any city we can make a transfer to cut the trip shorter?

We can accept transfer option for high speed trains.

I think there is no high speed rail service in Yinchuan at all, so you still need to use slow trains for at least a part of the trip. According to my searching, you can consider cities like Lanzhou or Yanan. The problem is that the total duration is not a big difference if you count the time for connections.
