How to Get to the Great Wall from Hong Kong

To plan Great Wall tours from Hong Kong, you should take a flight or train from Hong Kong to Beijing first, and then go to the Great Wall from the airport or railway station for sightseeing. A typical Hong Kong to Great Wall trip usually spans 2 - 3 days. For those with limited time aiming for a one-day tour, taking an overnight train is the way to go.
Among the numerous sections of the Great Wall in Beijing, Mutianyu and Badaling stand out as the premier choices.

Step 2: Get to the Great Wall

Both Mutianyu and Badaling Great Wall are located in the suburbs of Beijing, and it takes 1 - 2 hours by car from the airport or the city center. How to get there depends on whether you arrive in Beijing at the airport or Beijing West Railway Station from Hong Kong.

From the Beijing Airports to the Great Wall

The most recommended ways to travel from Beijing Airport to the Great Wall are by taxi, private car hire, or joining a guided tour.

Although public transportation is a more economical way to travel, since there is no direct bus between Beijing Airport and the Great Wall, you need to first take the airport bus to the city center and then take another bus to the Great Wall. This round-trip to the city center consumes a significant amount of time, and you may encounter traffic congestion during peak hours.

From Beijing West Railway Station to the Great Wall

If you arrive in Beijing by high-speed rail, you will get off at Beijing West Railway Station, which is located in the city center. Although public transportation to the Great Wall is available, it is time-consuming. If your schedule is tight, it is not recommended. Taking a taxi or joining a guided tour is a more favorable option.
