How to Travel From Beijing to Mutianyu Great Wall

A guided day tour is sure a hassle-free way to travel from Beijing to Mutianyu Great Wall. For independent travelers, direct tourist buses are convenient. For budget travellers, 916 Express will be a better choice. Taking taxis is not recommended.

08:30-10:00: set off at Qianmen (Buses depart when all seats are taken)
10:30-12:00: arrive at Mutianyu Great Wall
14:00-16:00: get together at the shuttle bus parking lot and set off
15:00-17:00: arrive at Shaoyaoju Subway Station (Passengers plan to visit Bird Nest and Water Cube may get off here.)
15:30-17:30: arrive at Qianmen
 1. Take subway line 2 to Qianmen Station, exit from B, and walk around 200 meters (220 yards) to the south.
2. Take bus 8, 22, 67, 82, 332, 137, 599, Sightseeing Line 2 to Qianmen station. After getting off, you can see the bus stop nearby.
 

There are more Qianmen – Mutianyu direct tourist buses to the Wall on peak travel seasons and the bus departs once fully taken. Passengers can buy the ticket from the conductor after getting on the bus.

 1. Take subway line 10 to Shaoyaoju and get out from Exit E, or subway line 13 to get out from Exit B.

 After getting off at Huairou North Avenue, one needs to transfer to bus line h23, h24, h35 or h36 to Mutianyu Roundabout, and then walk about 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) to the ticket office of Great Wall. The frequent H23 is more recommended.

 1. Take subway line 2, 13 or Airport Express to Dongzhimen, exit from H, and walk 500 meters (550 yards) to the east.
2. Take bus line 3, 418, 106, 852, 918, 106, 132, 401, 414 or 980 Express to Dongzhimen Public Transport Hub Stop.
 

1. It is recommended to take the early morning bus from Dongzhimen and take the bus departing before 15:00 back to downtown to avoid the crowds.
2. The Mutianyu ticket office is about 3 kilometers (1.8 miles) from the entrance and one can take the shuttle bus to travel between. The ticket fare is CNY10 for a single trip and CNY15 for a round trip.

 1. Tourists can take taxis to get there from downtown Beijing, but the taxis are not metered. Please confirm the price with the driver in advance and the single trip usually takes around CNY600.
2. It is extremely difficult to take the taxi to go back downtown. So there are many irregular cars near the Wall and be vigilant, so as not to be blackmailed or left halfway.
3. Renting a private car with the driver in advance is advised for a group of 3 - 4 people. The cars can hold up to 4 passengers and CNY 700 - 1,000 is needed for a round trip.
 Take Airport Express to Dongzhimen, taking 25 minutes and CNY25. Go out from Exit E and take bus line 916 Express and make a transfer at Huairou North Ave. to the Wall.
 Take Daxing Airport Express Line to Caoqiao, transfer to line 19 and get off and Jishuitan. Then take line 2 (Inner Ring) to Dongzhimen and take bus 916 Express.
 Take subway line 9 to National Library Station and change to line 4 to Xizhimen. Then, transfer to line 2 to Dongzhimen and then take bus line 916 Express.
 Take subway line 4 to Xuanwumen and change to line 2 to Dongzhimen Station. After, take bus line 916 Express to the scenic spot.
 Take subway line 2 to Dongzhimen, taking 15 minutes and costing CNY3. After, take bus line 916 Express.
