Beijing Daxing International Airport
Beijing Daxing International Airport, also called Beijing New Airport, is under construction now. As the thrid airport in Beijing, the location of Beijing Daxing International Airport is Lixian Town of Daxing District, south of downtown area. In order to meet the increasing demand for traveling by air, Beijing Daxing International Airport's construction includes 9 runways. It is predicted to have a long-term passenger footfall of 130 million per year. The airport is expected to be put into use in 2019. At that time, it will rank as the largest among all world’s airports.
The new airport is named 'Daxing Airport' because Daxing district is the place where the location of the airport is. At the beginning, there were many suggestions for naming the airport, Daxing, Yufa, Lixian, Zhuque...Lixian complies with the related China laws and rules as well as international practice; Lixian in Chinese means “be considerate and kind to men of talent” and Lixian Town has a history of over 2,000 years, thus Lixian can show rich Chinese culture and tradition. Zhuque, in English rose finch, is a kind of bird representing the south in Chinese culture, implying that the airport is seated in the south of Beijing; this new way of naming the airport can carry forward traditional Chinese culture; rose finch is beautiful and can be used in decorating the airport.
With a planning area of 820,000 square meters (202 acres), the construction of Beijing Daxing Airport is in different phases. The goal of phase one is to relieve the pressure of Capital International Airport, and will be finished in the year of 2019. The design of Beijing Daxing International Airport follows the ideas of green and environment-protection and will be adopted for sure. Beijing Daxing International Airport architects are not unnecessarily preoccupied with consideration for the airport’s outer appearance, but give more attention to the inner functions. The Beijing Daxing International Airport master plan resembles like a phoenix containing one main terminal building and five corridors. In the design of inner space, consideration will be given to making use of natural light and ventilation, and solar energy, etc.
1-2F: Arrival Floor
3-4F: Departure Floor
B1 Floor: Transportation Transfer Hub, Luggage Delivery Service
B2 Floor: New Airport Express Train Station, High-speed Train Station
It is reported that the China Southern Airlines (CZ), China Eastern Airlines (MU), Hebei Airlines (NS) and Capital Airlines (JD) will operate their flights at the new airport. Hence when the airport is put into use, passengers of these airlines should go there for their flights.
For passengers' convenience, a rail transit line - the New Airport Express Train will be put into use in 2020. According to the plan, it will include three stations: North Terminal of Airport, Cigezhuang and Caoqiao. City Terminal Building will be built at Caoqiao Station, where passengers can check in directly. After getting off at the North Terminal of the airport, it will only several minutes to walk to the Departure Hall.
The Beijing-Bazhou (Jingba) Intercity High Speed Railway Line, which will start running by 2019, will pass the airport. This will make it possible to transfer between high speed train and airplane at the airport.
Beijing New Airport will also be connected by three highways, successively to the east, middle and west. The east and west ones are already there and just need some short extending work. The one in the middle will be a new one, which will be the extension of Beijing southern axis line. These highways will provide great convenience for private cars, airport shuttle buses, and taxis, etc in the future.
Operation and maintenance of Beijing New Airport will be handled by the same team that takes care of the Capital Airport.
