(1) It’s changing from being warm to being hot. In this month, the highest temperature mainly ranges from about 25 to 30 degrees Celsius (77 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit), and the climate of Huangshan gets warmer and hot. On most days, the lowest temperature is between 15 and 20°C (59 and 68°F), so people just feel cool instead of cold before sunrise.

(2) Sprinkles may last for a few days. The precipitation of Huangshan in May is about 223 mm, and is marked by low intensity and long durations. There are approximately 14 precipitation days, and the slightly rainy days could last for 3 to 4 days. In fact, the low intense of rainfall has a limited on your sightseeing, and even makes ancient villages look more attractive.  Breathable Clothes: You can pack short-sleeved shirts / T-shirts, and a thin jacket as your tops, and thin long pants / sneakers as your bottoms.

 Comfortable Shoes: For visiting the downtown area and ancient villages, flats and sneakers are both OK. You may hike on hill paths paved with stones at dawn to view the sunrise, so non-slippery shoes are more helpful. For climbing the Huangshan Mountain, more breathable hiking shoes are recommended.

 Other Requisites:

(1) Sun-protective items: High-SPF sun block, a sun hat, or a sun-protective jacket with a wide-brimmed hat.

(2) Raingear: You can just bring an all-weather umbrella to cope with the weather variations. For climbing the Huangshan Mountain smoothly, a raincoat is more suggested.
 

1. View Sunrise, Sunset, Starry Sky of Huangshan Mountain

It suitable to visit Huangshan Mountain on sunny days in May, when there will be less cloud to block sunrise and sunset views and the temperature on the peak is not freezing cold. Moreover, all the night sky is dotted with twinkling stars, and photo enthusiasts shouldn’t miss this.

2. Stroll in Tangmo Ancient Village and Admire Traditional Residences

It’ll be a comfortable experience to stroll in Tangmo in the morning and afternoon of a sunny day. As you enjoy unique charm of Huangshan through residences with quaint designs, the sound of the flowing river will clear your mind. Besides, don’t forget to view the gingko tree more than 1,000 years old, which provides shade for you on hot days.

3. Visit Tunxi Old Street

Even on rainy days, you can still find a good destination in Huangshan, and that’s ancient-style Tunxi Old Street with museums and restaurants. On this street, you can view precious porcelains and furniture, closely watch craftsmen making writing brushes and ink slabs, and taste local snacks such as hairy tofu and roasted biscuits.
 

1. It’s not suggested to visit Huangshan in China’s May Day Holiday from 1 to 5, when most of attractions will be quite crowded. In the Huangshan Mountain Scenic Area, you may spend hours on queuing up to ride the cable car.

2. The weather in the Huangshan Mountain Scenic Area is variable, and precipitation has a direct impact on probabilities of different views. If you prefer sea of clouds, visit the mountain on cloudy days or after rain. If you’re enthusiastic about sunrise and sunset views, try to arrange your tour on clear days.
