At present, Xi'an and Tianshui are connected by about 40 pairs of high speed trains and over 30 pairs of normal speed trains daily. The former have a distance as long as 299 km (186 mi) to run and the duration of them is about 1.5 - 2 hours. A second class seat ticket costs no less than CNY 92.5. The latter need about 3 - 6 hours to complete a single ride.

How to Reach Maiji Grottoes from Railway Stations in Tianshui

Both of the two stations are directly connected to the Maiji Grottoes. Departing from Tianshui South Railway Station, passengers can take bus no. 60 to the scenic area. The duration is about 2.5 hours with the price of CNY 7. If starting from Tianshui Railway Station, passengers can choose bus no. 34 with the price of CNY 5 to arrive at the scenic area directly. The duration is around 2 hours.

Traveling from Xi'an to Tianshui, how to avoid standing tickets?

I heard sometime people got standing ticket, is it true? I am traveling with senior people, we want to avoid this problem on our first train trip.

If you book second class seat, we will not book standing tickets for you. For second class seat, the seat will be assigned when tickets are booked. If there are only standing tickets for sale, we will inform you first and book it after your permission. Please rest assured.

May I know how to assign a non-smoking carriage/seat?

It is recommended to take a high speed ride. Smoking is banned on high speeds. If you saw someone smoking on a high speed ride, you can report them! On normal type of ride, however, there is no strict line of smoking or non-smoking. Although it says that passengers should not smoke inside carriage area, but the space between carriage is fine. So the smell still influence the inside of carriages.

Tianshui South by taxi to Maji Grottoes

How much is the taxi from Tianshui South Railway station to Maji Grottoes, how many passengers per taxi and how long the journey please?
Any difficulty finding taxi for the return to tianshui south?

Taxi could costs CNY200 and max 3 or 4 people. The duration is at least 1 hour. You can ask the driver to see if he can wait you outside for your visiting and take you back to the station. The cost could be more than doubled. If you are not tight in time, you can consider bus service, No. 60 which runs between South Station and Maji Grottoes. The bus takes around 2 hours on the way.

Which station is closer to the Maiji Grottoes?

I am wondering which is better to use and is it east to find a taxi?

The distance is almost the same from both stations, they are not far from each other. However, different stations support different trains. If you want to use high speed rides, you need to use Tianshui South Station. It is not hard to find taxi at a railway station.
