Running Route of Xi'an - Chengdu High Speed Train

Xi'an - Jiangyou Railway: The construction of this section has begun since 2012 and it was completed on December 6th, 2017. The duration between Jiangyou and Xi'an is shortened to 3 hours or so. The designed highest speed is 250 km/h (155 mph) and the length is 534 kilometers (332 miles).

As this section will traverse Qinling Mountain, many tunnels and bridges have been planned to avoid detours, which account for about 92.1% of the whole Xi'an-Chengdu High Speed Rail Line. On October 13, 2016, the 9-kilometer-long (5.6 miles) Fuchuan Tunnel was cut through. Since then, all tunnels along the way have been finished and the constructors have started laying tracks in a large scale.

Jiangyou - Chengdu section: This section is a part of Chengdu - Mianyang - Leshan Intercity High Speed Railway which has been put into use since December 20th, 2014 and the length is 124 kilometers (77 miles). The current running speed is up to 124 mi/h (200 km/h) and the journey time is about 1 -2 hours. In addition, you can take this rail to visit Leshan Giant Buddha and Mt. Emei from Chengdu; the duration is about 45 - 90 minutes and 1 - 1.5 hours respectively.

What to see along the way

As the train goes through central Shaanxi Plain, Qinling Mountain to Sichuan Basin, the sceneries along the way will be a feast for the eyes. When traveling, the vast plain, the fertile land, well-growing crops, well-arranged houses and those who are working in the fields will give you a chance to see the lives of local peasants. The fresh air, blue sky, white cloud, green hills and blue waters between Qinling Mountains will make you want to stop and visit for a while. But you also should get ready as Chengdu to Xi'an High Speed Train and vice versa will go through several long tunnels in Qinling Mountains. When arriving at Sichuan Basin, you will know why Chengdu is renowned as Heavenly State and the abundant natural resources and cultural and historical heritages in this city will be worth a visit and make you indulge in pleasures without stop.
Currently, there are 8.5 pairs of normal trains shuttling between the two cities with duration of 10 – 18 hours. It costs CNY332/346/400 for a soft sleeper, CNY208/225/239/244 for a hard sleeper, and CNY 98/112/128 for a hard seat.

Aside from rail travel, one can also travel by flight or by coach from Chengdu to Xi'an or vice versa. There is no need to say that flights take the shortest time, about 1.5 – 2 hours, but cost the most, CNY 600 or so for an economy class seat. The coaches cost less, about CNY 200 – 240, but taking a long time of about 9 hours; in addition, it will be tiring and boring to travel by coach for such a long journey and the ticket is not easy to get for foreign passengers. One thing you also should know is that flights and coaches are more easily affected by weather than trains.

We have booked 3 tickets from Chengdu to Xian, as we want to visit the Terracotta Army. The train is clean and quick. Then we arrived at Xian North station. We bought Terracotta Army entrance ticket there and took a bus for free to Terracotta Army. Although we cannot speak Chinese, we took the train and went to visit Army without any problem.

Appreciate your help during the whole booking time. In fact, we booked the tickets two months ago to Chengdu from Xian on sleeper train, and we long for its natural landscape. However, we were told the Xian South Station is very far from the city. You proposed to change to high speed train and it worked well. Thanks for your flexible service.

We bought three high speed train tickets from Xian North to Chengdu East. We chose to collect the tickets at train station on the travel date. There were many people at train station. We joined a long queue to collect tickets along with others purchasing tickets on the same day. It took us more than 40 minutes. It is really a waste of time. If we did not arrive at train station 1.5 hours before the departure time, we may miss the train. Please do not take this as a complain of your booking service, we do think your service is very efficient. The railway system, however, need to simplify their process for sure!...More

We have changed our travel plans due to health problem when we were in China. We thought we had to give up our tickets for the rest of trips. While our consultant helped us cancel the tickets on time. It was good to know our tickets have been cancelled and refund of 80% of the fee is possible. Of course we wishes the situation would have been different. But we need to return home in advance. Thank you for all your help.

I booked my train tickets from Italy and I asked to send them to my first hotel in Beijin.
When we arrived the tickets were already there as Travel China Guide told me.
Everything was perfect about the reservation.

Now that we are back in our own country I would like to thank you again for your services. For us, China seems to be a difficult country to travel in, but now we can say that it was very easy. Travelling by train in China is very easy and comfortable. And also the domestic flights were good.

We will recommend TravelChinaGuide on our travel pages on internet with pleasure!
