There are about 90 pairs of bullet trains running between Chengdu and Chongqing, the duration of most trains is 1 - 2.5 hours and a ride on a second class seat of G types and D types trains cost CNY 96 - 168. C6015/6017 is not recommended because the travel time is about 6.5 hours and the second class seat costs CNY 418 - 421.
There are also 5 or so pairs of normal types shuttling between the two cities with duration of 3 - 4.5 hours. The ticket fare of a hard sleeper is CNY 100.5.

Although the normal types cost less compared with bullet types, there are less departures or arrivals, and the environment in the carriages is not good. If you choose hard seats, especially during the holidays, it will be rather crowded and make you tiresome. Thus, if possible, you'd better choose bullet type. However, if you have no other choice rather than normal types, you'd better purchase a sleeper even though it's a short journey. The sleeper will be more comfortable and you can have a more comfortable trip.
Passengers can take a coach to travel from one city to the other and the ticket fare is almost the same as the second class seats on bullet trains. But it takes about 4.5 hours, a longer and not that comfortable journey, compared with a high speed rail trip.

Some trains between Chengdu and Chongqing now use e ticket. Passenger holding passport for travel still need to go to railway station ticket counter to verify their passports and tickets. Then passport holders can go to waiting hall and checkin by using passports. Therefore, please reach the station earlier in advance for verification process.

00ReplyOver 30 high speed rides a day from the North Station to Chengdu, most of them stop at Chengdu East Station. If you are flexible with departure time, it is no problem to buy the ticket at station after your arrival. If you are a little tight with travel time, it is safer to book tickets in advance.

00ReplyIt mainly depends on the ticket availability, not seat class. If there are still may seats left, it is possible to get the seats together no matter for first class or second class.
