Up to now, more than 18 pairs of Xian - Chongqing high speed trains run daily between Xian North Railway Station and Chongqing West/ Chongqing North Railway Station for a distance of 977 kilometers (607 miles). Duration is 5 - 6 hours and ticket fare for a second class seat is CNY 435 per person at most. Normal speed trains including overnight sleeper trains run for 782/ 794 kilometers (486 - 493 miles), taking 9 – 10.5 hours.

K694/K692 run between Xian Railway Station and Chongqing West Railway Station. Xian Railway Station is close to the city center and has convenient transportation around. Passengers can go other places easily from here either by city bus or subway. Chongqing West Railway Station can be reached easily by subway line 5 although it is a little far from the city center. 

It's worth mentioning that passengers had better purchase a soft or hard sleeper to have a good rest onboard. 
 Xian to Chongqing flights usually take 1.5 hours for a single journey. This is a quite good choice for people who are pressed for time. However, flight delays can easily occur because of changeable weather and air traffic control. In this case, it may waste some time.

In contrast, bullet trains are punctual in most cases and the leg room onboard is wider than that on a flight. Also, if count in the travel time to/from airports and time used for boarding, the total consumed time of high speed trains and flight will be no big difference.

If you are a budget traveler, normal speed train is a preferable option. It costs less, even a soft sleeper berth costs less than an economy class seat on flight.
 Xian – Chongqing Direct High Speed Railway is expected to be put into use by 2027. This line will run along a different route and when opened, the travel time will be greatly shortened to 3 hours. The designed speed is 350km/h (186 mph).
