Beijing-Chengdu Train

Altogether 5 or so pairs of trains are running between Beijing and Chengdu at present. Among them, a few pairs are bullet trains, which run between Beijing West Railway Station and Chengdu East Railway Station with duration of 8 to 10 hours; the rest few pairs are normal types between Beijing West Railway Station and Chengdu Railway Station and the whole journey takes about 21 to 32 hours.

It can be noticed that travel by rail needs a long time. If you want to save time, you can choose the flight, which is faster and just takes 3 hours or so. Sometimes in low seasons, its ticket may be cheaper than the bullet train ticket. But generally it costs more.

High Speed Trains

G307/G308 and G89/90 are operated between the two cities. Compared with ordinary ones, they take less time, but the ticket fare is much higher.

Although running at a top speed of 186 mph (300 km/h), it still takes about 8 to10 hours on the way. If you feel like that you cannot make it, especially for the seniors and those traveling with kids, you can make a stop at Wuhan. After a good rest or even sightseeing if time permits, continue the ride energetically.

Normal Trains

Even the fastest normal train takes about 21 hours on the way, let alone others. But it saves money and is popular among budget travelers. However, it is recommended to choose a sleeper as it's a long journey. The air in a hard seat carriage may be not that good and the carriages may be rather crowded. Anyway, take care of your luggage and make full preparation to cope with the long journey.

Another relatively comfortable way is making a transfer on the way and the recommended cities include Luoyang, Xi'an, or Wuhan, which are good places for sightseeing, too.

The whole experience of booking our holiday was managed by yourselves effectively and efficiently. Our tickets were delivered to an address in Beijing and then changed with no hassle. All booking information was sent through in a timely manner and the service was impeccable at all times. We would not hesitate to use your service again.

From my first enquiry to arriving at our final destination in Beijing, everything went very smoothly and efficiently.Sunny was very helpful and efficient.
We were a bit apprehensive about the journey, but found the tips and advice given to us very helpful and reassuring and all the paperwork and tickets were taken care of as we requested.
The station at Chengdu is large and boarding the train takes place just before departure so it is not necessary to get to the station too early, about 30 to 40 mins is ok.
We found the high speed train very comfortable and punctual, the station staff were very helpful,as were the staff on the train. The countryside views were very interesting and would recommend having a camera handy .We brought our own food ,as the food on board was delivered by non English speaking waiters. There is a constant supply of hot water-very useful for making tea, coffee etc
I would not hesitate to recommend the Travel China Guide site to arrange travel for anyone thinking of travelling in China and would like to thank them for all their help and would certainly use them again.

Overall the experience was simple, easy to understand, and smooth. Purchasing the tickets ahead of time in the US turned out to be the best option. Your website had all the information in English, which was a relief. If I'd tried to purchase the tickets in China, it would have proven much more difficult, as my Chinese is limited. Also, I really appreciated the clear, step-by-step instructions. It made navigating the train stations much easier. And the train service was great. Fast and efficient. I'd for sure recommend this service again. Thanks so much....More

The website and booking process was very easy and gave me piece of mind about my train travel in China. My advice would be that anyone wanting to travel on the high speed trains should book well in advance. You should also make sure you have plenty of time for checking in, due to security and long queues at busy stations/times.

I think that you have the most efficient booking process. Everything happened as promised. My train tickets were at my hotel waiting for me as was arranged. The train travel itself was clean, comfortable, and always on time. Whenever I go to China I always use your service for train and other bookings because your services are so reliable. I also like the way that you provide multiple confirmations of bookings. It gives the traveller in China great confidence that travel arrangements will go as planned. Ten out of Ten. ...More

Excellent experience overall. Train schedule search system worked well so finding the right train to book was easy.
The purchase process was a bit convoluted but necessary to satisfy Chinese travel regulations. I had to upload a passport scan but was relieved to see that the upload is done through a secure website.
Ticket pickup at the stations was relatively easy. The option (as suggested by Travel China Guide) of picking up all tickets at once was very convenient.
The actual train ride was excellent. The cabins were spacious and quiet. The trains ran on time and connections were made smoothly. Great experience overall. Will definitely use this service again in the future....More
