To adapt to Guizhou climate in July, breathable summer clothes are proper during the day. T-shirt, thin sweatpants, shorts, dress, etc. are all good. In the evenings, you can add a piece of clothes, such as thin knitting shirt, jacket and trench coat, to cope with the reduced temperature, especially in the mountains. It would be better to wear in a few layers, so as to change you clothes in time according to the weather change.

Tips:
1. Essential items to take: rain gear! Umbrella and raincoat are very practical.
2. Waterproof sneakers or hiking shoes are advised to walk around attractions. If you have a pair in dark colors, it would be better in the rainy Guizhou.
3. Quick-dry long pants are more recommended, to prevent mosquito bites at the same time. On the other hand, shorts, skirts and off-shoulder clothes are considered to be improper in some Miao ethnic villages.
4. Don’t drag your suitcase on the stone-paved roads in Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village. It’s difficult to walk. You can put on your backpack instead, or leave luggage before your visit.
4. In the rain, a waterproof coat in bright colors is the best, to protect from rains and make you eye-catching when taking pictures.

Things to Do & Travel Tips

Travel Recommendation Rate:
Pros: cooler climate, grand scenery of natural wonders, ethnic festivals
Cons: frequent rain showers, strong ultraviolet rays, high season

1. Although Huangguoshu Waterfalls are magnificent due to the plentiful rainfall in July, the Water Curtain Cave there may be closed for visitors’ safety. Other more scenic spots would also be closed probably for a sudden rain storm.
2. The water would become murky just after a rainstorm, so don’t hurry to Huangguoshu Waterfalls, Xiaoqikong Scenic Area, etc. Wait for a few days if your time permits.
3. Summer vacation – July and August – is the high season of travelling in Guizhou, thus the top attractions are crowded and prices rise remarkably. July is more recommended comparatively if you have free time during the period only, for August is more crowded and expensive.
4. Multiple ethnic festivals fall in July 2026, which would be a rare chance to experience the unique ethnic cultures in Guizhou. Liuyueliu of Bouyei people (July 19 2026) and Chixin Festival of Miao and Dong communities are flourishing. Please respect local customs when you visit an ethnic village.
