What to Wear in Guizhou in January?

In view of the cold and damp Guizhou weather in January, it’s important to keep warm and protect yourselves from moisture.

Winter clothes like breathable thermal underwear, sweater, thick jacket or woolen coat, woolen underpants and plush pants are suggested. You needn’t wear too thick during the day, and thick padded coat or down coat is not the necessity, unless it rains or snows. However, it is optimal to add a thick outwear if you intend to go outdoors after nightfall.

Zhaoxing Dong Village is also recommended to visit, to experience the folk customs of the Dong ethnic group. Chinese New Year falls in January in some years, when you can celebrate the grand festival with local people together.

Tips:
1. Bad weather in January would result in some inconvenience on transport. On the one hand, don’t insist on going out if it’s fogging or snowing. Roads can be slippery and even icy, making your trip unsafe. On the other hand, you may have to start off earlier to deal with possible emergencies. Meanwhile, you would cost more when hiring a car, because of limited service providers.
2. January is the slack season, when some attractions in Guizhou shorten their opening hours. Confirm the opening hours before you go there.
