Guizhou Weather in December

 Guizhou weather in December is cold, as the temperature decreases to 3-9 degrees Celsius (37.4-48.2 degrees Fahrenheit) averagely. The highest temperature is no more than 20℃ (68℉) there, while the lowest temperature can go down to 0℃ (32℉) or so in eastern Guizhou. To colder western Guizhou, the temperature drops to -4℃ (24.8℉) minimally. For the low temperature, it’s vital to keep warm when you travel there in December.
 Guizhou greets the dry season since late November and December, so Huangguoshu Waterfalls have the decreased water volume significantly. Even though the amount of rainfall drops, it often rains in Guizhou in December. There won’t be heavy rains, but it is drizzly on about 9 days.
 Guizhou has snow in December probably, sometimes it sleets or freezing rain falls. In particular, in the high-altitude areas and northern Guizhou, like Fanjing Mountain and Weining, it’s more likely to encounter a snow in December. To southern Guizhou, it’s less likely to snow but you may fall into a run of wet weather.

At the same time, December is the month with lowest ultraviolet index, which is 2, in Guizhou. The UV index drops out the moderate level, and is maintained at the low level. Even so, tourists should also attach importance to sun protection for the high elevation. Especially in Guiyang, southeastern and southern Guizhou, ultraviolet rays are stronger.
 

 As Guizhou has entered winter, warm winter clothes are proper to cope with the cold Guizhou climate in December. It’s good to wear a suit of long johns below, and add sweater and interchange jacket on the top. Fleece hoodie, cashmere overcoat, lightweight down coat, fur coat, etc. are also suitable. On mountains and in western Guizhou, it’s optimal to wear thicker clothes, turtleneck clothes are better, and a scarf is also helpful.

For the lower part, you can choose leggings under the winter pants. Non-slip hiking boots are the best, or high-top warm sneakers are also OK. Woolen hat and gloves are also necessary when it’s raining, sleeting or snowing.
 1. You can get dressed casually in cities especially when the weather is relatively nice. There is no need to wrap yourselves up too thickly in cities like Guiyang.
2. If you walk a lot in some rural scenic areas, open the outwear once in a while, which is to lose heat. However, you can’t open the overcoat all the time, to avoid getting cold. It’s best not to take exercise or physical activities violently, because it’s awful to make your undergarments wet with sweat in the bleak weather.
3. Remember your umbrella when travelling to Guizhou.

It’s the dry season in December, so the famous Huangguoshu Waterfalls is not as spectacular as in summer. Even so, it’s also visit-worthy with considerable water flow.

Fanjing Mountain and more are great to see soft rimes and snow scenery in Guizhou. Zhenyuan Ancient Town is also recommended to witness old houses, and Sour Soup Fish in the Qiandongnan region is well-known and good to dispel coldness.

New Year of Dong will be the grandest ethnic festival in Guizhou in December 2025. Around Dec. 20th 2025, Dong people will have their New Year celebrations. In Zhaoxing Dong Village, you can watch the festival parade, experience their welcoming ceremony, take part in the long table banquet, etc.

Travelling to Guizhou in December, the biggest problem may be transportation. As roads turn to be slippery for a rain, sleet or snow, it’s a challenge for driving, especially on mountain roads. Thus, you might spend more time on the way, or cost more to change vehicles.
