What to Wear in Guizhou in October?

Guizhou climate is not so cool in the daytime during October, so a shirt, blouse, or hoodie plus jeans or casual pants is great. A thin jacket can be added in early October, but a thicker trench coat is more proper towards late October. To much colder night, you need to change into a thick outwear, such as outdoor jacket and fleeced coat, or add a thin sweater. Sometimes, if the temperature drops sharply during the cold spell, a padded coat or lightweight down coat and long johns are also necessary.

Non-slip waterproof shoes are always the best when you travel to Guizhou. As you may need to walk for long, comfortable hiking shoes or stream trekking shoes are optimal.

Tips:
1. If it’s cold at night, you may wear warm. Long overcoat, scarf, woolen hat and thick socks, etc. are recommended. You also need a thick quilt when going to sleep.
2. Sunscreen is a must, and mosquito repellent is also essential in rural areas.

The first half of October is still time for idyllic terraces and harvest scenes in Guizhou. Jiabang Terraces and Tang’an Terraces are well-known, and there are also terraces in Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village.

The week-long holiday of National Day in early October is a peak time for travelling in Guizhou. During the period, attractions are often over-crowded, and the prices go up. You may get to the spot early in the morning, to avoid the large crowds and long queues.

Duan Festival of Shui ethnic group is the grandest celebrations in Guizhou in October 2025 & 2026, during which you can watch horse racing, experience local banquet, and more ethnic culture experience in Sandu, Qiannan. New Year of Miao and New Year of Dong may come in late October in some years, it would be also interesting and lively if so.
