 Zhangjiajie enters spring in March, and the temperature shows a rising trend as a whole. From early to late March, the weather switches from being a little cold to slightly warm. According to the data in recent years, in early March, the average highest daytime temperature in Zhangjiajie rarely exceeded 20℃ (68℉); while, in late March, it often reached 25℃ (77℉) or higher.

However, unpredictable climate changes happen in March, accompanied with obvious temperature drop. On a day in late March 2025, the highest daytime temperature was 33 degrees Celsius (91.4℉), and after two days, the highest temperature dropped below 10 ℃ (50℉). Therefore, if you plan to visit Zhangjiajie in March 2026, we suggest that, check the weather forecast and pack the clothes accordingly.
 In March, Zhangjiajie’s rainfall is not too much, totaling 88mm on average. However, it has 17 rainy days on average. According to the historical data of recent years, it rained more in the second half of the month than in the first half and the possibility of moderate and heavy rain was also higher in the second half month. It very often turns foggy before and after rainfall, which influences the visibility of appreciating nature beauty.

 Yes. It is still possible to snow this Month in Zhangjiajie. In 2025, it snowed in late March. However, the chance of snowfall is much lower in March than in January and February. If you want to watch the snow view, January and February are more recommended.
 In March, sunrise gets earlier day by day, and sunsets gets later and later. On average, the day time maintains 12 hours. Thanks to the longer day time, you have more time to explore Zhangjiajie.

Last, although the sunray is not too strong and UV index is only 4, sun protection is still needed if you are going to stay outdoors for a long time. 

  As for “why”, firstly Zhangjiajie climate in March is not cold most of the time; second, it’s still the low travel season, so it won’t be crowded even in Zhangjiajie’s major attractions; in addition, the natural scenery in this month is good as plum, peach, and cherry blossoms begin to bloom.

On the other hand, frequent rainfall in March can have a significant impact on your travel. Sometimes, the heavy fog on mountains causes low visibility and you can’t see anything.Clothes:
For the upper, you can wear a spring wool overcoat and a hoodie; for the lower, a pair of jeans or single-layer casual pants plus spring sneakers are good. If you are sensitive to coldness, add long johns to your packing list. Since it may be hot at some sunny noons, you can take a shirt and single-layer jeans in your suitcase. Also, note that the high humidity this month makes clothes not easy to dry, so choose those made of quick drying fabrics.

For example, in Golden Whip Stream inside Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, the vast forest along the stream can be seen again. You can stroll along the forest path and breathe fresh air.

It is also highly recommended to climb Tianmen Mountain or Yuanjiajie to enjoy the spring views from a higher point of view. As the temperature is not too high this month, you wouldn't feel hot while climbing mountains. While climbing, you can also see the peaks from different angles.

You can also step on the Glass Bridge over Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon, to have a bird's eye view of the lush and green deep valley.

Last but not least, the trees around Baofeng Lake sprout tender buds and are reflected on the clear surface of the Lake, which is pleasing to your eyes. It is an enjoyment to appreciate the scenery while taking a boat ride.
