Chengdu Bicycle Tours

This long journey, spanning from the flat Chengdu Plain to the border of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, is full of the breathtaking landscape and encompasses a multitude of minority cultures.
BC-CD02: A glimpse of Chengdu Highlights
Chengdu is a top destination for those who are willing to explore the beautiful scenery while learning some Chinese history. You can choose to take the moderate cycling routes leisurely or challenge the long excursions consisting of flat plain and mountainous remote region.

Itinerary: 9-Day Chengdu - Sanxingdui - Dujiangyan - Mt.Qingcheng - Dayi - Emeishan - Leshan - Zigong - Dazu - Chongqing
This is a moderately difficult route that you can slow down the pace of exploring Chengdu City. Firstly, you can cycle leisurely in the urban area to those well-known historic sites while tasting the delicious but reasonable snacks. For example, after visiting the Wuhou Memorial Temple, you can pay a visit to the Jinli Street which is located to the east of the temple. In this street, you can not only have many of Chengdu snacks, but also do some shopping and enjoy the Sichuan Opera. Meanwhile, a 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) short cycling to the Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Center is highly recommended.
If you are interested in the Shu culture originated in Sichuan Province, please plan a one-day's trip to the Sanxingdui which is located 40 kilometers (25 miles) to the north of the city center. On the next day, you can take a little longer excursion to the spectacular Dujiangyan Irrigation Project to the northwest of Chengdu. Later, in the afternoon, you can cycle to the nearby beautiful Mt. Qingcheng. Here, you can stay over and climb up the mountain on the next day. In the afternoon, you could cycle to the Xiling Snowy Mountain which is located in Dayi County. Here, you could experience skiing in winter and enjoy the red leaves in autumn.
Tips: Although Dujiangyan City has been affected by the Wenchuan Earthquake, the main part of the irrigation project suffered a little fortunately. Travelers are still suggested to be careful when visiting this region.
Afterwards, you can take a little longer journey to Mt. Emei, climbing up the mountain and staying on the top for a night. After enjoying the sunrise on the next morning, you could get your bike again to the Leshan Giant Buddha. Later, cycle westwards about 120 kilometers (74.6 miles) to Zigong City which is noted for the Dinosaur Museum and Salt History Museum. From here, you can extend this journey to Dazu County and end up in Chongqing.
BC-CD03: Extraordinary Bicycle Tour
By taking this road, you can take the part from Chengdu to Moxi. Or, you can cycle to Yaan and then to Luding by passing through the Erlangshan Mountain Pass.

Itinerary: 7-Day Chengdu - Yaan-Erlangshan Mountain - Luding - Moxi (Hailuogou) - Shimian - Mianning - Xichang - Luguhu - Ninglang - Lijiang
From Luding, you can lead to Hailuogou directly. Then, cycling along the Dadu River southwards, you will arrive in Shimian County which is surrounded by mountains. In the remaining time, you can explore this not very large county and stay here for a night. Early on the next morning, you should leave for the Mianning County where the Xichang Satellite Launch Center is located, and then arrive in Xichang City. You can leave one day to explore the beauties of Xichang, such as climbing the Lushan Mountain and the Luoji Mountian as well as boating in the Qionghai Lake.
The next station should be the Luguhu Town which is on the border of Sichuan and Yunnan Province. Although the road is flat, it is suggested that you finish this about 260 kilometers (162 miles) in two days. Firstly, you have to cycle to Yanyuan County by taking the Xichang-Muli Highway. In the journey, you will climb over two mountains, so it is better to stay over in Yanyuan. Then, you can arrive in Luguhu easily in the next day. Cycling around the Lugu Lake, you will enter into the Ninglang County, Yunnan Province. From here, you can take a new excursion to Lijiang and other parts of Yunnan Province.
BC-CD04: Brief Chengdu Excursion
This route from Chengdu, Sichuan to Lhasa, Tibet is also known as the north line of the Sichuan-Tibet Highway. Starting from Chengdu to Tianquan, you will arrive in Kangding City by passing through the Erlangshan Mountain Pass.
One day's excursion is about 130 kilometers (81 miles), passing Zheduoshan Mountain, Xinduqiao, Gaoersi Mountian and finally arriving in Yajiang. The section of Zheduoshan is a 35 kilometers (22 miles) long hillside and Gaoersi mainly is steep slop. On the following day, you will have a challenging cycling about 130 kilometers from Yajiang to Litang, passing by the so beautiful Jianziwan Mountain and five other mountains. It is better to prepare enough food and water in advance because the dining and commotion in this section is not so good. Early in the next morning, you can cycle in the wide prairie until to the Haizishan Mountain. Then, you have to take a little dangerous journey westwards along valley and riverway until to Batang where you could have a short tour. Leaving Batang, a flat road will lead you to Zhubalong Village easily located at the east bank of the Jinshajiang River. Across the Bridge of Jinshajiang and over the Zhongbala Mountain, you will reach the Mangkam County, Tibet.

I am considering bicycle riding at Jiuzhaigou. Is it nice idea? High altitude does not matter or is a huge problem for bicycle riding there?

Do you mean you would like to ride bicycle in Jiuzhaigou scenic spot? I've heard that there is bike rental spot for tourists riding bikes in a certain area.
