Sichuan - Daocheng Hiking Tours
13 Days of Daocheng - Riwa - Yading - Chonggu Monastery - Bayiu Village - Risa Pass - Zhawuqi Yak Ranch - Risa Yak Ranch - Xiasu Yak Ranch - mountain pass - Yana Yak Ranch - mountain pass - Luorong Yak Ranch - Chonggu Monastery - Yading - Riwa - Daocheng

Take a direct Chengdu - Daocheng bus at Chengdu Xin'nanmen bus station(RMB217.00 net), overnight stop at Kangding, arrive Daocheng in the evening of the 2nd day (or You can refer to Kangding 02 for detailed info to reach Daocheng ).Stay in the local hostel and have a good rest upon your arrival. It will take you about two days for you to get there from Chengdu - the provincial capital city of Sichuan Province. You are suggested to stay in the Yadingren Communtiy (0836-5728933) with cost for RMB30.00 net per bed with the triple occupancy.
The third day, take the minibus, with about three hours' drive from Daocheng bus station to Riwa, which located about 74 kilometers from Daocheng. Upon your arrival in Riwa, take the Green Minibus(Tips: All travelers have to take the Green Minibus, No private vehicles are permitted to drive into the reserve ) for another 20 kilometer. It will cost you RMB25.00 net. Upon arrival in Yading village, hike around the village and stay overnight in the local hostel.
Brief introduction: Yading, the "Shangri-La" discovered by Joseph Rock in 1928, is renowned for the 3 holy peaks, which were blessed in the 8th century by Buddha Padmasambhava of projecting his divine light onto the range and naming the 3 elevations after 3 bodhisattvas.
The south peak Jambeyang (or Jampelyang, Yangmaiyong) of 5,958m is the avatar of Manjushri, the Bodhisattva of Wisdom. The east peak Chanadorje (or Xianuoduoji) of the same height represents Vajrapani, the Bodhisattva of Wrath. The north peak, Chenresig (or Chenrezig, Xiannairi) of 6,032m, the highest of the trio, symbolizes Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Mercy.
The 3 peaks are the patron saint of the Tibetan. It's said that if a Tibetan pilgrimage to the shrine 3 times in life, he can be blessed with all he desires. Therefore, pilgrimage to this holy range is a long-cherished wish of each Tibetan.
Yading is one of China's most awe-inspiring nature reserves, Tibetan's holy land. Every stunning vista here is celebrated with a gompa, prayer flags or Mani Stones. On this adventurous trip you will take in relatively remote areas of Tibetan culture - small towns reminiscent of the wild west, rolling landscapes characterized by wheat and barley fields and Tibetan houses.
The fourth day, enter into the Yading Natural Reserve, which is famous for its holy snow mountain, ranches and beautiful rivers. The admission fee is RMB150.00 net per person. The extra charge will be added if you want to experience to ride a horse within the scenic area. Start trekking clockwise around the holy mountains. First, trek south for 8 kilometers to Chonggu Monastery (3880 meters high). The admission fee for the Chonggu Monastery is RMB5.00 net per person. You can rent a horse from Longlongba to Chonggu Monastery, and it will cost you about RMB40.00 net. From here, you can see the north face of the Shiannairi Peak (6032 meters high). Then continue to trek east for 15 kilometers to Bayiu Village. Stay in local Tibetan villager's house or camping.
The fifth day, trek east for 5 kilometers up to the Risa Pass (4900 meters high). From here, you can see the north face of the Xianuoduoji Peak (5898 meters high). Then continue to trek east for 12 kilometers to Zhawuqi Yak Ranch. Stay overnight in the camp.
After your breakfast, trek southwest to Risa Yak Ranch following a riverside path for 8 kilometers in the morning of the sixth day. From here, you can see the east face of the Xianuoduoji Peak, then continue to trek southwest following the river for 12 kilometers to Xiasu Yak Ranch. You can see the south face of the Xianuoduoji Peak from this direction. Stay overnight in the camp.
The following day, trek southwest for 6 kilometers up to a mountain pass (about 4700 meters high). From here, you can see the east face of the Yangmaiyong Peak (5898 meters high). After a short rest, then continue to trek southwest for 16 kilometers to Yana Yak Ranch. The south face of the Yangmaiyong Peak can be seen here. Stay overnight in the camp and have a good rest.
The eighth day, trek northwest up tp a mountain pass(about 4500 meters high) about 15 kilometers, and you can see the north face of the Yangmaiyong Peak and the south face of the Shianairi Peak from this angle. After a short break, continue to trek northeast to Luorong Yak Ranch about 5 kilometers, you will see the beautiful Five Color Lake and Milk Lake. Stay overnight in the camp.
The ninth day, trek northeast back to Chonggu Monastery for about 16 kilometers along a stream. You will see all the 3 holy peaks clearly on your way back, since you are surrounded by them. Stay in the Chonggu Lodge and it will cost RMB20.00 net per person.
The memorable and hard trekking in the Yading Nature Reserve ended. Trek from Chonggu Monastery back to Yading on the tenth day, then take the Green Minibus back to Riwa. After your upon in Riwa, change to a minibus back to Daocheng. You are suggested to stay in the Hot Spring Cottage where you can have a good hot spring bath.
The following two days, leave Daocheng to Chengdu and stay overnight in Chengdu(Refer to Kangding 02 for detailed transfer info. ).
The thirteenth day, leave Chengdu according to your flight schedule. Your unforgettable hiking around the three holy mountains accomplishes.
