Shanghai - Taiyuan Train vs. Flight

Direct flights between the two cities take about 2.5 hours and ticket fare for an economy class seat may be low to CNY400 when a discount is offered by the airlines in low season. If count in the travel time to/from airports and time used for boarding, a flight trip may take about 6 hours in total.

In contrast, high speed trains take a longer time, but passengers may have a more pleasant travel experience as they can use mobile devices and the internet freely onboard. Additionally, the legroom is much wider on high speed trains.

If traveling by overnight sleeper trains, passengers can lie down to have a rest. It can save one-night accommodation fee and the day time.
