You can enjoy 72-hour visa free transit in Beijing for both ways as long as you have the confirmed seat onward ticket to a third country or region. That is to say, if you fly from Australia to Beijing and then go to a third country, you can use the visa free transit.
Asked by John Chau from AUSTRALIA | Dec. 07, 2017 23:12Reply
How is the "72 hr visa free transit" been calculated?
I am holding an Australian Passport and will have stopovers in Beijing on both outbound and return trips. Am I eligible to apply for the following "72-hr visa free transit" visas if I :

- arrive PEK on Monday 05:30 and leave PEK on Thurs 15:30 for my outbound trip, and
- arrive PEK on Monday 15:30 and leave PEK on Thurs 01:10 for my return trip.

Am I eligible to apply for "72-hr visa free transit" visas on outbound and on return trip as well?

When will the 144-hr visa free transit visa at PEK be implemented?

The 72h is started to be counted from the landing of your flight. So you are not eligible for the 72h visa-free transit for outbound trip, but it is suitable for the return trip. The latest news reports that 144h visa-free policy will be carried out in late Dec. 2017. We shall see!

You can take the airport shuttle bus to Xi’an Hotel first. This bus will work to 02:00 at midnight and the ticket fare is CNY25/person. Upon arrival, you are only around 4 kilometers to your hotel, so you are suggested to take a taxi there directly. The taxi fare may be about CNY15.
