Xi'an - Lanzhou Railway Map

A High Speed Railway Connecting East and West China

Lanzhou to Xi'an High Speed Railway stretches across northwest China, connecting Xi'an-Luoyang-Zhengzhou and Zhengzhou-Xuzhou High Speed Railways to the east, and linking Lanzhou-Urumqi High Speed Railway to the west. As a major part of Four East - West High Speed Rail Lines, it is an important channel to connect north and northwest China with east and central China; after being put into operation, a much faster transfer between Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai and Lanzhou, Urumqi, and other northwest areas has been possible.

Running Route of Xi'an - Lanzhou Bullet Train

Xi'an - Baoji Railway: This section has been in service since December 28th, 2013. The total length is 167 kilometers (104 miles). The top running speed is up to 250 km/h (155 mph). The duration between the two cities is 1 hour or so.

Baoji - Lanzhou Railway: As a major part of Xuzhou-Lanzhou High Speed Railway, this section, also called Baoji - Lanzhou High Speed Railway, has a distance of 401 km (249 miles). It has been operated since July 9, 2017. The designed running speed is 250 km/h (155 mph). After operation, Baoji - Lanzhou High Speed Trains has shortened the duration between the two cities to 2 hours.

What to see along the way

Traveling northwestward along Xi'an to Lanzhou High Speed Rail Line will give you a chance to visit the ancient Silk Road and experience different natural and human landscapes. This journey will be a transition from the central Shaanxi plain to the junction point of Loess Plateau, Tibetan Plateau and Inner Mongolian Plateau. Along this way, you will be able to appreciate the prosperous cities, the quiet villages, the fertile fields, the barren mountains and hills. These complicated landforms will leave you a deep impression and make you know well about northwest China.

Xi'an - Lanzhou Overnight Trains

At present, about 40 pairs of normal trains are operated between Xi'an Railway Station and Lanzhou Railway Station / Lanzhou West Railway Station and some of them are overnight trains. The travel time is 7-12 hours.

Xi'an – Lanzhou Train vs. Flight vs. Coach

The most recommended is high speed trains, which save both time and money. If you are a budget traveler, overnight sleeper trains, including K269, K305, K131, K177, K1309 are also preferable choices; they can save your day time and one-night accommodation fee.

About 1.5 hours are needed when you travel by flight; and an economy class seat usually costs about CNY 300 - 500. However, counting in the time to / from airports in both cities, the duration on the way is even longer than bullet trains. Also, flights can be easily affected by weather change and air control.

A coach takes about 11 hours; and the ticket price is CNY 220 or so. Traveling by coach is not advised if you have other choices because it will be boring and time-consuming, and less comfortable.

How do I get to Wanda Vista hotel from Lanzhou west railway station

Take metro line 1 at the train station to Lanzhou University, Exit D out, take 野生动物园定制公交3路 to Tanjianzi (滩尖子), then you can see the hotel.

Metro time at Lanzhou West Station to Chengguan District

Is there any one knows about the earliest and latest train time to Chengguan District?

By subway line 1, the earliest departure time from west station would be at 6:46am and the subway service ends at 10:46pm. If you will reach west station very late at night, there is another option, you can take a train from west station to main station which is also in Chengguan District. The final train is at 11:22pm.

We are staying at Holiday Inn & Suites Lanzhou Center

How far is it from Lanzhou West Station? How long it takes by cab?

They are not very far from each other, maybe 3km. You can take a taxi or use metro line 1 for just one stop. Your hotel is near exit A of Xizhanshizi metro stop. 10min for transfer.

Is there still public transportation in service at that time? If not, how much would a taxi approximately costs? Thank you.

You can still use bus No.1 from west station to Wanxuanlu Xikou, the 12th stop and then walk to the hotel. The hotel should be around 200m from the bus station. The bus ends at 10:30pm.
