Lanzhou - Zhangye Train

About 18 pairs of high speed trains are shuttling between Lanzhou and Zhangye every day, taking 2 - 4.5 hours. 

Over 34 pairs of normal speed overnight sleeper trains also serve with a distance of 530 kilometers (329 miles). Duration is 4 – 7.5 hours. It costs CNY 113 - 170.5 per person for a hard sleeper.

A pair of direct flights are available between the two cities with duration of 1 hour. The full fare for an economy class seat is CNY 1,000, but usually the ticket fare can be low to CNY 300 or so when the airlines give great discounts.

They are operated at Lanzhou/ Lanzhou West Railway Station. In Zhangye, more trains are operated in Zhangye Railway Station, and 8 pairs of them are in West Railway Station, which also operates bullet ones. If passengers need to change to a high speed rail, the west station is recommended.

Four types of trains including Z, T, Y, K types are used for this trip. Some Z types such as Z509, Z373, Z106, Z293, and Z41 take the shortest time of 4 – 5.5 hours. In this case, passengers are recommended to buy Z types for this journey. Besides, overnight sleeper trains departing in the evening and arriving in the next early morning are also good choices because they save one-night hotel expenditure and the day time.
 The ticket fare and travel time of high speed rail and normal speed Z type do not differ much. But the Z types offer sleepers so passengers can lie down while the high speed ones have more advanced facilities.
