Is July a Recommended Month to Visit Beijing?
July is a bad month to visit Beijing. In fact, if you are planning to visit Beijing in 2025, it is recommended that you avoid this month. The reasons are as follows:
1. July’s sunny days are very hot and stuffy, and the UV rays are quite strong, making it not pleasant at all to go out for a visit. As for rainy days, you may be trapped in your hotel since the rain may be really heavy, especially in the second half month.
2. July is during China’s summer vacation, and Beijing gets super crowded with students and their parents. At that time, you will find it hard to make reservations for all attractions, especially the popular ones like the Forbidden City; you will have to wait in line for a long time even after you arrive at the attractions with a successful reservation; the attractions will be packed with people, which will make you feel even more sweltering; and the hotels will be very expensive.

Temple of Heaven |
1. As mentioned above, entry tickets for attractions are particularly hard to book since July is one of the busiest months for travel, so you’d better finalize your itinerary planning in advance and book them as early as possible.
2. Hotels can be very expensive, but if you can book early, it may be slightly cheaper.
3. Head to your destinations as early as possible in the morning. On the one hand, there will be fewer people; on the other hand, the temperature will be a little bit lower. Or, many attractions close late in July thanks to the long daylight hours, so you can visit these places after 16:00, when it is cooler. For your reference, this month, the closing time for the Mutianyu Great Wall is 18:00 on weekdays and 18:30 on weekends; for the Summer Palace is 20:00; and for the Temple of Heaven is 18:00.
4. The Forbidden City is open in July from 8:30 - 17:00, meaning that you have to pay a visit in the hot sun. You are advised to try to visit along the route in the shade of the eaves.
5. Take a break in the hottest midday in a restaurant or a cold drink store. In the early afternoon, it is also quite hot, so it is better to visit some indoor venues such as the National Museum of China.
6. You can also arrange some spots for the less hot nights, Houhai, Sanlitun Bar Street, and the National Stadium, for example.
