Chengdu Weather in January

 January is the coldest time in Chengdu, with the high temperature fluctuating between 4 - 13 degrees Celsius (39 - 55 degrees Fahrenheit) and the low value between 1 - 6℃ (34 - 43℉). The humid air lowers the perceived temperature by 3 - 4℃ (5 - 7℉) and makes the weather of Chengdu in January wet and colder. On rainy days, the high temperature approaches 0℃ (32℉). People only feel not that cold at sunny noon. In addition, most indoor places in Chengdu do not have heating equipment; public places rely on air conditioning for heating. In other days, it is covered by cloud most of the time, when the sky can be dim. It is somehow a surprise for local people if the sun shines for 2 consecutive days. Because of the short sunny duration and a lot of overcast days, the air humidity remains a high 78% in January although the rainfall is quite low. 

The daylight extends from sunrise at 7:55 - 8:01 and sunset at 18:13 - 18:38, offering about 10 hours of travel time. If it’s not enough for you, make a tight schedule to visit as many attractions as possible.
 January is the peak month of foggy weather, with an average of 7 - 12 foggy days. The rapid cooling ground during nights causes water vapor to condense into fog, and the surrounding mountains in Chengdu result in poor air flow, ultimately making it difficult for fog to spread. It usually forms in the early morning; after about 10 am in the morning, it dissipates as the temperature gradually rises, and the air quality also improves.
