Erlian/ Hohhot - Ulaanbaatar international trains are also in service now. If the timetable of Beijing - Ulaanbaatar direct train cannot meet your schedule, you can choose to make a transfer. Hohhot with more connecting trains to/from Beijing seems to be a better choice.
Beijing - Hohhot - Ulaanbaatar Train
Passengers need to take high speed trains to travel from
Beijing North/
Qinghe Railway Station to
Hohhot Railway Station first with a duration of about 2 - 3.5 hours, and then take the cross-border train heading to Ulaanbaatar, taking about 36.5 hours.
It's worth noting that some high speed trains stop at
Hohhot East Railway Station, which are not recommended, as the same station transfer is much easier. If you want to have a visit to Hohhot City, you can also choose to arrive at Hohhot East Railway Station.
Shuttling from Hohhot East Railway Station to Hohhot Railway Station, passengers can take metro line 1 and transfer to line 2 at Xinhua Square station, taking about 30 minutes onboard at a cost of CNY 3.
