March is the month when Xi’an steps into spring. Overall, the temperatures are comfortable and favorable for travel. At the beginning of the month, the temperature is around 5 - 15 degrees Celsius (41 - 59 degrees Fahrenheit), and you may still feel slightly cold, but only a thick coat or jacket is needed to block the coldness. In the second half of the month, the temperatures are very comfortable, with daily highs climbing up to about 20°C (68°F), and even approaching 30°C (86°F) at sunny noon.
 

However, pay attention to: Firstly, the temperature difference between day and night can be as high as about 10 - 15°C (50 - 59°F), which means that you need to add clothes when go out in the early morning and evening. Secondly, the weather is quite changeable this month! For example, sometimes, a rain seems to bring the city back to winter, and the temperature may drop by about 10°C (50°F) compared with the previous day.

In March, precipitation in Xi’an is still at a low level of 29 mm on average. Snow may possibly fall at the beginning of the month, but most of the precipitation in March is in the form of rain. On average, the rainy and snowy days total about 7. Typically, the rain is very small and lasts for just a few hours at a time.  Upper: To cope with the changeable climate of Xi’an in March, you need to prepare more clothes. In the first half of the month, it is a bit cold in the morning and evening, but comfortable during the day. Therefore, it is recommended that you wear layered clothing. You can wear a shirt as the innermost layer, a knitwear as the middle, and a thick coat, such as a wool overcoat, as the outermost layer. Alternatively, wearing an inner shirt plus a 3-in-1 jacket is suitable. Most of the time in the warm second half month, you can just wear a long-sleeved T-shirt or a hoodie plus a jacket; if the temperature drops on rainy days, you can wear all the three.

 Bottom: Thick jeans and sweatpants will be enough. Preparing long johns for night tours in early March is a wise idea.
