Chengdu – Guiyang Train vs. Flight

Traveling by flight takes 1.5 hour or so. A full-priced economy class seat costs CNY 1,400, but discounts are usually provided by the airlines and then the ticket price for an economy class seat may be low to CNY 300. The fastest high speed trains take 3/3.5 hours. If travel time to/from the airport and boarding time are added, rail travel time has no big difference from the flight travel time. In this case, bullet trains will be more competitive because of their reasonable price and wider leg room onboard.

Almost the same, 12km from East Station and 13km from North Station. If you take a taxi, it is same. No problem to take a taxi near station, you can always find taxi service, but do use an offical one and go by meter.

Do you recommend to book in advance?
How busy are these trains likely to be? is it necessary to book in advance? I prefer to stay flexible but if it will be full then I would book in advance. Thank you

There is indeed a possibility that all seats are fully booked, but it is hard to say how often this kind of situation could happen. Maybe you can check the availability often online to follow the availability status.

Do you recommend to book a D or G train?
Except the duration, is there other difference?

Except duration, there is also a smal price difference. G type is a little bit higher in price, but not a big difference. Instead of train type, it is more important to choose running route, which means arrival station. I recommended ride to Guiyang North Station for convenient transportation, unless you will stay near East Station area.
Asked by Norah from AUSTRALIA | Dec. 06, 2018 17:28Reply
Why the price is different? And which station is near Guiyang city center?
Is there discount offered on some of the rides so they are cheaper? Will the ticket price become higher if I only buy it on the day of travel?

The price difference is due to the running routes and arrival stations. The price is fixed, no matter if you buy it in advance or just on the travel date. Guiyang North Station is a little closer to the city center compared with the East Station. So if possible, North Station is more recommended and there is also metro service there.
