China - Mongolia / Vietnam Trains Started Running Again
By now, 3 pairs of China - Mongolia and China - Vietnam international trains suspended from 2020 have resumed service one after another since March 2024. Although running at a different rate, all of them facilitate passengers who want to have a cross-border train trip. Nanning - Hanoi trains in service again since May 2025 operate daily with a running time of approximately 12.5 hours, while those shuttling between Beijing and Ulaanbaatar only run once a week since June 3 this year. If the timetable cannot fit, passengers can also transfer in Hohhot. Hohhot - Ulaanbaatar trains depart every Monday and Friday from the two cities. During the suspension from 2020 to 2024, China expanded its high speed train map to Vietnam: D87/D88 have been running daily since April 2023 between Kunming and Vientiane in about 9.5 hours.
