Guilin-Hangzhou Train

There are 8 pairs of trains in total running between these two cities. Among them, 4 pairs are high speed G types taking around 8 - 9 hours; the rest 4 pairs are normal T and K types, including overnight sleeper trains, taking 15-19.5 hours.

Alternatively, there are also flights available for this itinerary. Although the flight usually costs much more compared with rail service, especially normal types, the duration is only around 2 hours. Travelers who are pressed for time may use them.

High Speed Trains

Although run at a top speed of 186mi/h (300km/h), it still takes around 8 hours to 9 hours for this long trip of over 897 miles (1,443 kilometers). All of them run between Guilin Railway Station and Hangzhou East Railway Station. Guilin Station is closer to the city center; city buses like No. 3, 4, 5 etc have stops there. Hangzhou East Railway Station is about 6 miles (10km) away from the West Lake and can be easily accessed by subway Line 1 and Line 4.

All the 5 pairs of rides run between Guilin North Railway Station and Hangzhou East Railway Station following almost the same route as high speed rides. Guilin North Railway Station is around 5 miles (8km) away from the city center. Bus No. 100 (double-decker) can connect it with Elephant Trunk Hill and other attraction sites. These rides take much longer time than high speed rides. However, their price is much lower. Thus they may be a good option for student and budget travelers.

For a long distance trip like this, it is highly recommended to choose a sleeper like soft sleeper or hard sleeper to guarantee a good rest. Except Soft Sleeper and Hard Sleeper cabin, there are also some Deluxe Soft Sleeper cabins set up on T77/T78 which can offer a private space for passengers who travel in a group of two.
