Eleven High Speed Rail Lines to Be Opened by the End of 2025

By the end of 2025, 11 newly-constructed high speed rail lines will be opened, with a total length of 2,538 kilometers (1,577 miles). By then, China is expected to have a high speed railway network with an overall length of more than 50,000 kilometers (31,069 miles).

With the opening of Chongzuo - Pingxiang section of Nanning - Pingxiang High Speed Railway, passengers will be able to travel between Nanning, capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and Pingxiang, an important port with Vietnam, in only about 1.5 hours. In the future, this railway may be extended, crossing the border to connect China with Vietnam.

The operation of Guangzhou - Zhanjiang high speed railway will also shorten the travel time of bullet trains running between from 2.5 hours to around 1.5 hours.

Other high speed rail lines to be opened include Xi'an - Yan'an, Wuhan - Yichang, Jiande - Quzhou, Xiangyang - Jingmen, Shenyang - Baihe, Baotou - Huinong, Panzhou - Xingyi, Hefei - Sixian, and Wenling - Yuhuan high speed railways.

Another Pair of International Bullet Trains Started Running between China and Laos

The second pair of high speed trains on China - Laos Railway have started to run daily since July 18, 2025.

Train D86/3 departs from Kunming Railway Station at 10:55 (Beijing Time) and arrives at Vientiane Train Station at 20:59, while D84/5 runs in the opposite direction at 12:25 - 22:08. Previously, D87 is operated at 08:08 - 17:44 from Kunming South to Vientiane, and D88 operated in reverse at 09:00 - 18:34.

With a top running speed of 160 km/h (99 mph), they need about 10 hours to complete this 1,023 km (636 mi) cross-border trip. Major stations along the way include Kunming South, Puer, Xishuangbanna, Mohan, Boten, Muang Xay, Luang Prabang and Vang Vieng.

Passengers can book tickets for trains running from Kunming to Vientiane online through TravelChinaGuide.com or at the international ticket window of major stations in China. Return tickets are available on the Laos' cellphone application called LCR Ticket and the stations along Laos' railway section. It costs CNY 552 (USD 77) for a second class seat and CNY 881 (USD 123) for a first class one.
