    Trip Planning FAQs

What to see in China for first time travelers?

China is a vast land with abundant tourism resources. For first time travelers, the top travel destinations of Beijing, Xian, Guilin, Shanghai and the Yangtze Cruise are recommended. As ancient capitals, both Beijing and Xian boast fantastic cultural and historic relics, such as the Great Wall, the Forbidden City and the Terracotta Warriors. Guilin is well known for its superb natural beauty, with Li River flowing through an amazing landscape resembling a scroll-painting. A relaxing cruise on the Yangtze River allows people to immerse themselves in the wonder of the natural surroundings. Shanghai, an international metropolis, best shows the country's pulsating modern development as well as its olden-day charms. In the light of the above, you can combine visits to these cities as you wish to create your China holiday tours.

For a second time traveler, what are the recommended destinations?

If you wish to go further on your second trip, you may consider visiting some regions with distinctive features. For panda lovers, Chengdu will satisfy your desire to observe these cute creatures in their natural habitat. In addition, it provides easy access to the magical Jiuzhaigou. Tibet is a good option for those who are interested in learning about Tibetan Buddhism and seeking out the mystery of this unique land. Cities in southwestern region like Kunming, Dali, Lijiang, Shangri-la, Guiyang, Kaili, and Zhaoxing are also popular for their rich ethnic minorities' folklore and customs. If you are curious about the Silk Road culture, you can visit Dunhuang, Turpan, Urumqi, Kashgar and more cities depending on your trip duration. For those who like mountain sceneries, Zhangjiajie and Mt. Huangshan are indeed visual delights. The above mentioned are only partial lists, our travel consultants are ready here to customize a private China tour package to meet your needs.

How many days are needed for a China land tour?

It mainly depends on the destinations of your trip. For a single city vacation package, three to four days are required. If you want to visit two to three cities, basically one week is needed. A 12-day to two weeks China vacation package usually would cover four to five cities. Once you decide on your destinations, we can help you work out a realistic duration.

What is the best time to travel to China?

China is a vast country with wide-ranging climatic conditions, so a decision about the best time to visit should be based on the regions you plan to visit and the kind of weather you enjoy. Generally speaking, late March to May in spring, September and October in autumn are the best months to visit most of the cities. Try to avoid travelling during the National Day Holiday from Oct 1st to Oct 7th as all sightseeing spots are very crowded. For visitors who want to save money and enjoy sightseeing without interference by tourist crowds, you can plan your private China tours in the winter season from December to February.

How much would a trip to China cost?

The prices will range widely depending on the destinations, durations and your demands for comfort. Let's take one of the most popular itineraries as an example, 8 days Beijing, Xian and Shanghai. It will cost about USD1400 per person on the basis of a private China land tour for two people with 4-star accommodation and domestic flights in between. If you join in a small group tour with the similar itinerary, the trip usually costs about USD999 per person. For travelers who start your 2019/2020 China tours from USA, Canada, UK, Australia, Germany, Spain, France, etc, international flights are not included.

Many travelers also take the high speed trains instead of flights to save the cost and enhance the travel experience, which has been proved to be an awesome choice. No matter how much you want to spend on a trip, as the best China tour company we are always happy to tailor make a private tour itinerary that best fits your needs. In addition, our early bird discount can also help you save more.

Our theater group went on a four-city tour of China in July, 2019. Everyone had fantastic memories of Shanghai, then Xian, Dunhuang and finally Beijing. To sum them up, one member said, "It was flawless!" I was so thrilled to see the actual results of our months of emails TCG and I exchanged (each within 24 hours) of ideas and improvements. Special for me was the introduction to China when we were whisked from the airport via MegLev train to Shanghai. Also moving our luggage by separate van so it appeared at our rooms, our ready guide's "bank" to change $100 into rmb to avoid a line at the counter. All the iconic sites we saw but best was the Silk Road stop in the Gobi Desert at Dunhuang and the camel ride from our perfect hotel to the oasis. Breakfast on their roof-top dining room started each day with good food, and camaraderie while enjoying the amazing view of sand-dunes all around. I must include the fun seeing one theater show in each city. Each was a gem displaying the best acrobats, costumes and the essence of their history as in the Tang Dynasty portrayal. I'm working on doing the trip again with others who have heard of its success from friends and family. ... More

Wendy has been very responsive and tailored the trip to our requirements. The early booking discount and pricing was quite attractive too.

I'm very happy to share our great experience with future travelers. It was amazing having this company to arrange our China tour, stress free and well-organized. All our guides were extremely helpful. Celine in Xi'an was the best. Her command of English was very good, as well as her knowledge about the history and areas visited. The drivers were good. The cars were always kept clean and in good condition. All meals were very good. Urged to choose only one, I would like to recommend the Hot Pot in Xi'an. Finally, our trip was memorable because they made it so. Knowing that every flight, every hotel, every meal was taken care of by people you could trust made all the difference. We were able to relax knowing that they were taking care of thing in a very reliable manner. Thanks very much and congratulations for the great work. ... More

Beijing is an incredible city with a vast history. We took the two day Beijing Tour and would highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Beijing for the first time. It was magical in every way. Walking the Great Wall, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, was inspirational to say the least. Out tour guide, Chrissy gave us great insight to history of the Wall as well as the sights we visited. Chrissy also was able to negotiate through the large crowds that were present due to the summer holiday period.

We did an additional 1/2 day tour to the Beijing Zoo to see the Giant Pandas with Barry. These animals are not to be missed.

Thanks to both guides that made this trip so memorable for my wife and myself.

Travel China Guide put together a great 11 days tour for my sister and me. We had a funny time. Most outstanding for me about this company is the personal touch. Firstly for taking note of my birthday and organizing a special lunch and surprise birthday cake. I also thought it was very lovely to meet Abbey in Xian. I think it is a very nice gesture for the person behind all the emails to come out in person :) I also want to thank-you Abbey for your kind consideration when my plane in Xian to Zhangjiajie was delayed - for offering to make extra arrangements so I wouldn't miss out on any visits because of the delay and not charging me any extra money for the flight change. Good job and thank you again. ... More

Selina, it was a pleasure to travel with you. Thank you for your Chinese hospitality. We understand how hard you worked with John to make this such a memorable time for us. We are impressed with the organization you did - everything went off without a glitch. The trip was one of a lifetime! It is hard to believe all the sites we visited, that is all real. We are still pinching ourselves! What a wonderful experience this has been for us.

Overall I was very happy with most of the guides and drivers. However I would like to give a special mention to John (guide in Beijing) who was a clear stand out amongst all the guides for being exceptionally enthusiastic and helpful and going above and beyond his required duty to help us-making sure of directions and bus routes for us during our free time, coming into the train station to Chengde and waiting there with us until we boarded the train, and even helping me buy a sim card for my cell phone. I would also like to mention Leedan in Hangzhou who in her own time took us to watch the Impression West Lake show, and waited until the show finished to help us catch a taxi back to the hotel-which she did not have to do since this was not a part of the itinerary. As for drivers, I would like to mention the drivers in Beijing and Chengdu for their exceptional service. In a number of cities the guide/driver was not aware about providing me with bottled water. This didn't matter when the hotel provided complimentary bottled water daily, but I had to ask the guide when the hotels didn't give water. Overall everything was very well organized. ... More

Let me say something about my recent tour of China:

All guides were very well versed about the sites that we visited. Our guide Mr. Hack was very helpful when I got sick in Harbin, it's sad he couldn't guide us around Harbin like he was supposed to do because I got sick, but he was very genuinely helpful. Besides this instance, my wife's favorite guide was Tracy in Xian and my favorite was Brian in Beijing. Overall we were very happy with all the guides. All hotels and breakfast in each city was excellent, we were very happy. All meals in every city were excellent. In our personal opinion, meals provided at Xian and Beijing restaurants were the best. The overall environment and service was excellent in all cities, but in our personal opinion, restaurants that we went to in Xian and Beijing had the most impressive environment atmosphere and presentation. The dumpling dinner in Xian was probably the best. Our favorite tour moment was Great Wall and terracotta warriors, we thoroughly enjoyed them.

We now have lots of confidence in TCG's ability to tailor our vacation to suit our own taste. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend and use this company again.

      - TCG's service is excellent.
      - They are also helped with our visa application. They have already a letter prepared for you that you can include in your application.
      - All transfers and connections worked perfectly. We were always welcomed in airports and stations promptly, with a big smile and a big sign.
      - The quality is excellent including the selection of places to visit and the guides.
      - The guides are very friendly and keen to share their knowledge and help you with any other request.
      - The selection of hotels was very good too, but as a customized trip I chose a few of them through TripAdvisor.
      - The lunches and dinners, and the restaurants, were excellent too (we didn't have any stomach issues and I tend to have a sensitive stomach).
      - The guides also provided us with bottles of water daily.
      - The cars have air conditioning and are very comfy. For my surprise, every single driver was a safe driver, and not necessarily because of the slow traffic! We had several journeys out of the cities and never felt unsafe or felt they were rushing to the airport. I was worried about this because I read news about frequent road accidents, but the drivers were excellent.
      - Punctuality and reliability top notch!
