Shanghai South Railway Station

Shanghai South Railway Station, the former New Longhua Station, was constructed in 1908. It is about 9 miles (15 kilometers) from Shanghai Railway Station, 11 miles (17 kilometers) from the Hongqiao Railway Station and 30 miles (48 kilometers) from Pudong International Airport. It operate both normal speed trains and high speed trains. 

Extensively renovated in 2006, the station got a modern circular makeover, and became the world's first round station. During July to December 2024, Shanghai South Station underwent another upgrade.

The South Station provides service to many large cities such as Guangzhou, Xi'an, Shenzhen, Nanjing, etc. and many second-tier cities such as Nantong, Huaihua and Fuzhou. Additionally, services to some of the adjacent tourist destinations are both efficient and convenient. Most importantly, it serves the intercity service along Jinshan Rail Line.

The station is comprised of a terminal building, a North Square and a South Square. Inside the terminal building, there are three floors.
 2F: waiting hall, ticket office, check points, entrance
 1F: waiting hall, ticket office, platforms, entrance
 -1F: arrival hall, exits, ticket office for transfer passengers, Metro Line 1, Line 3 and Line 15, taxi stand
 South Square: South Long-distance Bus Station, city bus stops, taxi stands
 North Square: city bus stops, taxi stand
  Arrival by metro: Line 1 & Line 3 & Line 15
If getting to the station by subway, one will get off on -1F.

 Arrival by bus:
At North Square bus stop: 301, 303, 729, 747, 763, 1252, Hongqiao Hub Line 1

Passengers arriving by bus will be dropped off at either north or south square. If having booked the ticket, enter the station directly with the ID certificate used to book to the ticket, then find the waiting area according to the ticket information. If not, buy one at the ticket office at the northeast entrance on F2. Afterwards, read the ticket information to find the bording gate and wait nearby.

 Arrival by taxi:
Taxis are allowed to drop passengers off at the station entrance on 2F.
From Shanghai Railway Station: It takes about 30 minutes and costs around CNY55.
From Hongqiao Station: It takes 35 minutes and costs about CNY65.
From Pudong International Airport: It takes about 50 minutes and costs around CNY150.

Passengers should have their ID certificate checked at the right check point. Overseas passengers should use the manual check channel. After, go to the platforms to get onboard.
 Upon arrival, all passengers will be led to transfer hall on -1F to exit. Passengers can easily find taxi stands, metro entrances or buses here to leave the station.

 Leave by metro :
Waiting area of metro lines is on -1F. After confirm which line to take, go to the specific area to take it.

 Leave by bus:
Bus stations can be found at either north or south squares. Passengers should confirm where they need to go first, and then find the corresponding bus station.

 Leave by taxi:
Taxi stands are easily accessible at the east side of the south square, west side of the north square or on -1F.

 Transportation to other places:
 People's Square: Take Metro Line 1 to the square. If interested, one can also walk westward to visit the prosperous Nanjing Road or eastward to the Bund.

 Oriental Pearl Tower: Take Metro Line 1 to People's Square, and then change to Line 2 and get off at Lujiazui. Get out from Exit 1 and walk about 440 yards (400 meters) to the destination.

 Shanghai Railway Station: Take Metro Line 1 to the destination.

 Hongqiao Station: Take Metro Line 3 to Hongqiao Road and then transfer to Metro Line 10 to get there.

 Hongqiao Airport: Take Metro Line 3 to Hongqiao Road and then change to Line 10 to get there. It is one stop further than Hongqiao Station.

 West Station: Take metro line 15 to West Station directly.

 Pudong Airport:
1. Take Airport Shuttle Bus Line 7 from South Square of the station to get there directly. It departs from 06:30 to 21:30 with an interval of 20 minutes. The duration is about 90 minutes and costs CNY 20.
2. Or take metro line 1 to People's Square, then change to line 2 to the airport.

Waiting Hall

 Ticket Office / Service Center:
Located at the northeast entrance on F2 of the railway station building, the ticket office is upgraded to the service center where passengers can deal with all about their train tickets such as ticket purchase, change and refund. Ticket vending machines are set next to the center.

 Waiting Hall:
The renovated waiting hall can accommodate about 9,000 passengers once at most. Those who need care can have a rest in dedicated waiting area and enjoy special boarding lane free from crowded passenger flow. Children can also have fun in the special play area. 

 Left Luggage:
Passengers can store their luggage at the store near Exit 4 of Shanghai South metro station, which charges CNY 10 - 20 per day based on the luggage type. Self-service lockers can be found near Exit 6 of the metro station.

 Youth Service Desk:
It is located in the waiting hall on 2F. It provides services including advice seeking, emergency medicine, needlework, wheelchair as well as complaint handling, lost and found etc.

 Other Facilities:
Many toilets and hot water can be found inside the waiting hall. Accessible toilets are set for passengers in wheelchairs and mothers with baby. Besides, medicine stores, gift stores, shopping areas are also available in the station.
